Furthermore, the Wolverines are just 1-4 against the spread (ATS) in Big Ten games this season with a -6.1 spread differential. This includes an ATS loss as 16.5-point road favorites in a 28-21 win at Rutgers last week.
Sure, 28 points is a step in the right direction, but Rutgers ranks 122nd nationally in schedule-adjusted EPA per play, according to GameOnPaper.com, so it isn't that impressive.
COVERS INTEL: Michigan struggles in the red zone on both ends of the field. The Wolverines rank dead last in the 18-team Big Ten in red-zone scoring efficiency, converting just 18-of-24 opportunities, and they've allowed opponents to score on 18-of-19 red-zone possessions.

The Wolverines average only 21.3 points per game, which is a big reason I like Michigan State +13.5. But they're facing a Spartans defense allowing 25.8 points and 5.6 yards per play. Even with Michigan's offensive limitations, 24 points is plausible against this defense.
If Michigan State can contribute 17, a 27-17 finish cashes the Over while the Spartans cover the spread.

I’m looking for a rivalry game that starts ugly, then either both offenses settle in or the defenses wreak enough havoc to score or give their offenses short fields.
A scoreless or 3-3 first quarter keeps the early leg alive, but there’s still plenty of room for the game to get into the 40s after that. If Michigan State hangs around and forces Michigan to keep scoring into the fourth quarter, all three angles can get there together.
Start slow, finish competitive, and let the points come late.
