On this day, April 10, in Sports Odds History...
1961 (Golf): South African Gary Player becomes the first international player to win the Masters after beating defending champion Arnold Palmer and amateur Charles Coe by 1 stroke. Player entered the tournament at +600 while Palmer was listed as the +400 favorite.
2005 (Golf): Tiger Woods wins his 4th Green Jacket by defeating Chris DiMarco with a birdie on the first hole of a sudden death playoff. Woods entered the tournament as the favorite at +350 while DiMarco was +5000. The final round was highlighted by Woods' chip in for birdie on the 16th hole. It's the only time in Woods' career to be in a playoff at the Masters as this was the first time the playoff began on the 18th hole (going back to 1979 the previous six sudden-death playoffs at Augusta began at the 10th hole).
2011 (Golf): South African Charl Schwartzel birdied the last four holes to shoot 66 (-6) and win his first major championship at the Masters. Schwartzel was a 100-1 long shot entering the tournament. With a 4-shot lead entering the final round Rory McIlroy was -150 to win the tournament but a triple-bogey on the 10th hole led to a final round 80 and a tie for 15th place. The final round saw eight different players hold a share of the lead at one point, including five players simultaneously on the back nine.
