Underdog contests
Underdog offers two main types of competitions: traditional draft mode and Pick'em. I've tried both systems and have outlined how they work below:
Traditional draft mode
The first type of game is a traditional draft mode in which you draft your team under a salary cap. The cost of drafting a team ranges from $2 to $2,500. You can go head-to-head against another team or pit your skill against up to 20,000 other teams. Simply choose a competition you want to enter, like the 2025-26 NFL season, draft your team, and wait for the results. Underdog charges a “rake” for draft contests, ranging between 5% and approximately 11%, depending on the entry fee. For example, a $3 draft involving three teams pays out $8, which equates to a $1 rake. If you play a $2,500 heads-up draft, the house takes $250, which is 5% of the prize pool.
Pick'em
The other type of contest is called Pick’em. As mentioned earlier, this is essentially choosing higher or lower. For example, you could pick Derrick Henry to rush higher or lower than 83.5 rushing yards, and you can also place an entry on whether he will have more or fewer than 18.5 rushing attempts. There are two ways to play Pick’ems.
- Standar: This is a standard parlay — with between two and five legs — which means you need to get your predictions 100% right.
- Flexed: Flexed is akin to traditional combination entries, in which you need to make at least three selections and as many as eight. And just like round robins, you can still win even if one or more selections miss.
