Why midterm odds can add up to more than 100%
Midterm election odds listed on prediction markets may add up to more than 100% because prices can reflect fees, spreads, liquidity, and order-book movement. Think of the extra percentage like a built-in trading cost, not a prediction that every outcome is more likely.

Michigan Senate race odds 2026

The crown jewel of Michigan election odds is the Michigan Senate race. Democrats are trying to hold this seat without their incumbent, as Gary Peters is retiring this year. Democrats need to hold this seat to have a chance at Senate control, and they need to do so while navigating a messy Democratic primary. Republicans have consolidated already and are looking at their best pickup opportunity in a Democratic-held seat.

Democrats are favored right now in Michigan Senate odds after the primary on Aug. 4. Democrats chose Abdul El-Sayed, a Bernie Sanders-endorsed progressive.

Democrats need to hold Michigan to have any chance of winning the Senate. With Democrats needing a net four gains to flip the Senate, a loss in Michigan would require Democrats to win 5 seats, making it nearly certain Republicans will hold on to Senate control. General election polling is sparse, but Republicans poll competitively against El-Sayed.

Michigan House race odds 2026

Michigan has a pair of highly competitive House districts that will be crucial for House control. Democrats are looking to flip two seats, the 7th and the 10th. Both seats would represent big gains for Democrats trying to win back the House this year.

Democrats need to make 3 net gains to win the House. With House control coming down to a handful of seats, gaining two seats in the Wolverine State would go a long way toward achieving national Democrats’ goals of winning the House.

The 7th District was a Democratic seat until 2024, when Democratic incumbent Elissa Slotkin gave up the seat and ran for Senate. Having narrowly voted for Trump, the seat is a prime pickup opportunity for Democrats. Right now, Democrats are favored in Michigan 7-to-1.

The 10th District has been Republican in both 2022 and 2024, but incumbent John James is running for Governor. Democrats came close to winning this seat twice and are favored to finally flip it without James on the ballot.

Michigan Governor and Statewide election odds

Democrats are favored to keep the Governor’s Mansion in Michigan. With incumbent Democrat Gretchen Whitmer term-limited, Democrats are running Jocelyn Benson, the sitting Secretary of State, against Republican Congressman and two-time Senate candidate John James.

James was Michigan's best-performing Republican in both 2018 and 2020, but couldn't win statewide because he ran in blue years. Prediction markets don’t think the year will be any kinder to James this time, as he is a considerable underdog to Benson in Michigan Governor odds.

Michigan polls vs. prediction market odds

Source type What it shows Limitation
Polls Voter preference at a specific moment Can lag events or miss turnout shifts
Prediction markets Trader-implied probability Can be affected by liquidity, volume and participant bias
Forecasts Model-based projection Assumptions vary by model
Fundraising reports Campaign strength and donor support Does not always translate to votes

Prediction markets and polls are measuring different things and are not interchangeable. Polls are snapshots of voters’ intentions at a given time, while prediction markets are a live-updating indicator of market probabilities. When breaking news and key information emerge, prediction markets can move first, before polls show any impact.

Why Michigan matters in the 2026 midterms

Michigan is one of the most important states in the country for the 2026 midterms. With a Senate seat up, two crucial House seats that Democrats are trying to flip to regain House control, plus the Governorship and both chambers of the Michigan Legislature, the state is one of the most hotly contested in the country. In a state won by Donald Trump by less than 1.5%, the stakes are high.

Democrats are trying to hold the Governorship and the Senate seat in this Trump-won state, while trying to flip Republican-held House seats in Michigan’s 7th and 10th districts. Those two seats could go a considerable way to helping Democrats flip the House this fall, given the narrow 220-215 deficit they face.

Democrats need to hold the Michigan Senate seat to have a chance to win the Senate. To gain Senate control, Democrats need four net gains; a loss in Michigan would require them to win a fifth seat from Republicans.

Michigan represents the best pickup opportunity for Republicans this year, making it a high-interest race. That, plus the plethora of races up and down the ballot, will make the state one of the signature states of 2026.
