Ontario’s online gambling market took a giant step forward in April 2022. With big names like BetMGM, Caesars, and FanDuel entering the province, there are now more legal options than ever for casual online gamblers.
Here’s a look at some key dates leading up to and following the iGaming Ontario launch:
March 23, 2023: Coolbet closes its Ontario online casino. The operator will officially exit the Ontario iGaming market on April 3, 2023.
Feb. 6, 2023: Fitzdares launches its online casino in Ontario.
Feb. 2, 2023: Four Rootz Ltd brands go live in Ontario: Caxino, Spinz, Wheelz, and Wildz.
Jan. 26, 2023: iGaming Ontario reports $11.53 billion in total online wagers for the third quarter of the 2022-23 fiscal year (Oct. 1 through Dec. 31, 2022).
Jan. 5, 2023: Mobile Incorporated Limited's Conquestador.com becomes the latest iGaming Ontario online casino.
Nov. 29, 2022: The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) takes legal action against the Attorney General of Ontario and iGaming Ontario, claiming the new iGaming Ontario market is illegal and has had a negative impact on its gaming business.
Nov. 17, 2022: theScore Bet Casino adds new branded live dealer games to its Ontario online casino.
Nov. 2, 2022: Five more online casinos arrive in Ontario, as Captain Cooks Casino, Luxury Casino, SpinAway, Yukon Gold Casino, and Zodiac Casino all go live.
Nov. 1, 2022: Bet99 Casino and Mansion Casino re-launch in Ontario.
Oct. 31, 2022: Casino.com and LuckyDays Casino are approved as iGaming Ontario online casinos.
Oct. 27, 2022: CanPlay Casino, Casino Classic, Casumo, Golden Tiger Casino, and Grand Mondial go live in Ontario.
Oct. 26, 2022: Pinnacle.ca launches in Ontario. The sportsbook is live, and Pinnacle Casino will launch shortly.
Oct. 24, 2022: TWHG Inc. launches eight online casino brands in Ontario: Casigo, Casimba, DreamVegas, FireVegas, Gate777, Hello Casino, Jackpot Village, and Playzee.
Oct. 19, 2022: Betano Casino, a Kaizen Gaming brand, becomes the latest operator to enter the Ontario iGaming market.
Oct. 13, 2022: PressEnter Europe Limited's Nitro Casino is approved by iGaming Ontario.
Oct. 12, 2022: iGaming Ontario reports that the province's online gaming market drew over $6 billion in total handle from July 1, 2022, to Sept. 30, 2022.
Oct. 4, 2022: The AGCO plans to put an end to the 'transition period' for grey market operators in Ontario on Oct. 31. Any online gaming operator that has not signed an agreement with iGaming Ontario will not be permitted to do business in ON until becoming an Ontario-regulated platform.
Sept. 27, 2022: BetVictor Casino makes it 32 legal iGO online casinos in Ontario.
Aug. 30, 2022: iGaming Ontario releases its first batch of gaming numbers: From April 4 to June 30, Ontario online gamblers wager $4.076 billion, and iGaming operators take in $162 million in total gaming revenue.
Aug. 29, 2022: SIA Casino (Sports Interaction Casino) re-launches in Ontario. There are now 31 Ontario online casinos.
Aug. 23, 2022: Four more Ontario online casinos go live: JackpotCity, Royal Vegas, Ruby Fortune, and Spin Casino join Canada's largest iGaming market.
Aug. 5, 2022: PlayFallsview executes an operating agreement with iGO, making it the 26th legal Ontario online casino to launch operations.
July 20, 2022: Bally Casino is approved as an iGaming Ontario internet gaming operator.
June 28, 2022: PokerStars Casino goes live in Ontario after satisfying all iGO operating requirements.
June 23, 2022: Four more online casino operators register with the AGCO. JackpotCity, Royal Vegas, Ruby Fortune, and Spin Casino could soon be active in Ontario.
June 1, 2022: KnightSlots becomes the 37th internet gaming operator to register with the AGCO.
May 18, 2022: DraftKings Casino is approved as a legal Ontario online casino after securing an iGaming Ontario operating agreement.
May 13, 2022: DraftKings and PlayFallsview officially register with the AGCO.
May 2, 2022: Three more online casino operators register with AGCO. PlayOJO, SpinGenie, and Slots Magic will aim to execute iGO operating agreements and launch their online casinos in the near future.
April 21, 2022: ComeOn! is added to the AGCO's list of registered Ontario online gaming operators. The province is up to 28 registered online casinos and 31 online gaming operators.
April 19, 2022: Betway Casino registers with the AGCO, becoming the 30th internet gaming operator in Ontario to do so.
April 13, 2022: NorthStar Gaming (NorthStar Bets) becomes the 29th online gaming operator to register with the AGCO. The online casino and sportsbook will need an iGO operating agreement before going live in Ontario.
April 11, 2022: Unibet launches its online casino website and mobile app in Ontario.
April 4, 2022: Ontario's new iGaming market officially goes live.
April 1, 2022: The AGCO confirms the registration of 11 more online gaming operators, including bwin and Caesars.
March 21, 2022: BetMGM and the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) become registered online gaming operators in Ontario.
March 15, 2022: bet365 joins the ranks of approved iGaming operators in Ontario. The UK-based online sportsbook and casino is the 14th operator to register with the AGCO.
March 11, 2022: FanDuel and Royal Panda become the 12th and 13th operators to register with the AGCO.
March 10, 2022: After becoming a registered online gaming operator on March 9, Rush Street Interactive (RSI) confirms it will launch BetRivers.ca real-money casino and sportsbook on April 4. Unibet and LeoVegas are among those to also receive regulatory approval.
March 3, 2022: VHL Ontario Limited (888casino) is approved as one of three registered internet gaming operators in Ontario. The registrations will take effect on April 4, 2022.
Jan. 28, 2022: iGaming Ontario (IGO) reveals that Ontario's new iGaming market will launch on April 4, 2022. Registered online gaming operators will be allowed to go live on day one.
Nov. 15, 2021: AGCO releases its Internet Gaming Go-Live Compliance Guide, highlighting responsible gaming and other operator regulations.
Nov. 2, 2021: Caesars Entertainment CEO Tom Reeg believes Caesars' history with Caesars Windsor and its existing customer base will give it a competitive advantage in Ontario.
Oct. 27, 2021: Evolution launches a live casino on OLG.ca. Ontario is the fourth province to partner with Evolution (Alberta, British Columbia, Quebec).
Oct. 14, 2021: Rush Interactive Inc. (RSI) launches CASINO4FUN® — a free-to-play online casino and sportsbook. The company plans to enter Ontario’s real money iGaming market with its flagship brand, BetRivers, in 2022.
Sept. 9, 2021: The AGCO finalizes rules and regulations for Ontario’s new iGaming market.
July 6, 2021: The government of Ontario announces that the province’s open and competitive iGaming market will be managed by iGaming Ontario, a newly established subsidiary of the AGCO.
