The L.A. Rams and L.A. Chargers share a home, and on Sunday they’ll share a field as the winless Chargers look to flip their slow start. Our expert is thinking upset and likes the Chargers to cover.

TOP PICK
Chargers vs Rams prediction: Chargers +6.5

We're going with the underdog, and we'll stick with the Los Angeles Chargers and the points until 54%, with a long look at the moneyline below 30%.

The Chargers still have all the offensive skill-position talent that made them a popular pick to contend for the AFC West title heading into the season. The problem has been giving them time to work.

The Chargers had four rookies on the offensive line in their last game. They had last week off to get healthy, while offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel tinkered with schemes and explored new protection options.

Joe Alt should be back on the line. He wasn't even listed on the injury report. The Chargers also hoped to get back guard Kayode Awosika, but he hasn't practiced this week. Receiver Ladd McConkey (concussion) has also been a full participant and should be back.

Covers COVERS INTEL: Quarterback Justin Herbert needs to get some linemen back. He has been sacked third most often in the NFL, averaging 3.5 a week. He went down 13 times in the last three games. He's also been hurried 14 times this year, hit 23 times, and forced to scramble 19 times. His pressure percentage (26.4%) is the fourth-highest in the league and three percentage points above his career average.

Chargers vs Rams combo

Traditionally, Herbert has been successful when under pressure. This game should test how often the Los Angeles Rams can get to him.

The Rams posted a 66.7% pass-rush win rate against the Giants earlier this season, their highest single-game mark since 2022.

However, when quarterbacks get the pass off, the defense pays the price for selling out, as the Rams have allowed the NFL's highest yards-after-catch average. Look for Herbert to hit enough big gains to keep it close, even if he takes hits.

Overall, the Rams have allowed 30+ points twice and 20+ points twice in their last five games. The Chargers defense has allowed 22+ in every game, so there should be plenty of points on the board. Our Week 8 expert combo picks have more same-game parlay ideas across the slate.

Chargers vs Rams touchdown scorer: Kimani Vidal

McDaniel is an offensive wizard who has been under pressure during the Chargers' 0-6 start. Given a bye week to tinker, he'll come up with an unexpected twist, and that could involve Kimani Vidal.

The running back has seen his time increase in recent weeks at the expense of Omarion Hampton, who has played less than 50% of the offensive snaps over the last four games. Vidal had the same number of touches as Hampton last game.

If the Rams get their pressure to Herbert, the quarterback will be looking to dump off to an RB, and Vidal has more targets than Hampton and a slightly higher average yards after catch per reception, an area where the Rams defense has struggled. Chargers vs Rams player prop: Matthew Stafford Under 34 passing attempts

The Rams ran for 201 yards last week, and both Kyren Williams and Blake Corum topped 90 yards. Sean McVay wants to stick with the recent reliance on the ground game, and Matt Stafford has seen his numbers shrink in recent games.

He had four straight 300-yard games and three straight with more than 50 attempts and 30 completions all through mid-October. Since then, his yardage, completions, and attempts have dropped each week, and he went 23 of 29 for 195 against the Raiders.
