The Eagles are on a short week while the Commanders are coming off a bye. Does this rest difference matter? Jason Logan gives his early leans and NFL picks for Sunday night's NFC East encounter.

The Washington Commanders hope a bye week can stop the bleeding when they host the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday Night Football in Week 8.

Washington entered its bye week on a three-game skid and now hosts a Philadelphia team coming off a loss on a short week.

My Eagles vs. Commanders predictions weigh in on this NFC East rivalry, giving my early leans and NFL picks for Nov. 1.

Early Eagles vs Commanders spread pick: Eagles +4.5

The Washington Commanders may have had time to rest and recover, but this offense is missing key pieces in Week 8.

Receiver Terry McLaurin is done for the year, and RB Jacory Croskey-Merritt is still on the IR, leaving a less-than-healthy Jayden Daniels without two of his top weapons.

The Philadelphia Eagles have their own offensive injuries, with their top two WRs DeVonta Smith and Dontayvion Wicks missing Week 7. Their status will swing this line before SNF.

As bad as the Eagles looked in the loss to Dallas on Monday, the offense wasn’t horrible with backup QB Tanner McKee under center. Despite missing top options, he kept his head above water as long as he could in a shootout, but Philly was simply outgunned by a potent Cowboys passing game.

Washington doesn’t have the same firepower to overcome its wretched defense. The Commanders rank bottom 10 in several advanced metrics, including 29th in success rate allowed. Rival QBs are enjoying an average passer rating of 105.0 versus Washington this season.

Philly’s Monday night loss is still fresh in everyone’s minds, but recency bias is overshadowing the fact that Washington has no business laying this many points in a divisional rivalry.

Early Eagles vs Commanders total pick: Over 40.5

As mentioned, the Eagles’ receiving corps could swing both the spread and total should Smith and Wicks return to practice. Philly is going to need those targets to overcome just how bad the defense has been.

Monday’s game saw the Eagles fail to register a single sack or QB hit, giving up scores on seven of Dallas’ nine possessions. The pass rush isn't making QBs sweat like it once did, and Daniels is the No. 2 ranked quarterback at PFF when kept clean.

This is the Commanders’ second look at Vic Fangio’s 2026 schemes, having lost 24-22 to the Eagles in Week 1. Philadelphia’s once-vaunted stop unit is right next to the Commies in the basement of the defensive stats, including 22nd in Defensive DVOA at FTN.

The health of the Eagles' offense gives me reason for pause, but I’d lean Over 40.5 points on SNF.
