No. 10 LSU takes a 4-1 record to Lexington as a 9.5-point favorite, where Kentucky’s 4-1 start and pass-protection issues set up a compelling SEC matchup.

Both 4-1, No. 10 LSU and Kentucky meet today at 7 p.m. ET at Kroger Field, with the Tigers laying 9.5 points and carrying a 74% win probability.

My LSU vs. Kentucky prediction backs LSU’s defensive edge as the Tigers seek their first win in Lexington since the 2002 Bluegrass Miracle, with a first-half angle also in play.

See our Week 6 college football picks for tonight's matchup, plus our Week 6 Top 25 predictions and best bets, which also back LSU -9.5.

 TOP PICK
Who will win LSU vs Kentucky today? Pick: LSU -9.5

Give me the LSU Tigers -9.5 up to -10.5 because teams can't run the ball on their defense and the Kentucky Wildcats struggle to protect the quarterback.

LSU ranks fourth nationally in yards per rush allowed and second in sacks, which puts Kentucky in obvious passing situations it isn't equipped to handle.

Kentucky got its doors blown off 45-17 by Alabama, losing the first-down battle 21-14 and yards per play 5.4-3.3. The Tigers have an even better defense, with game-wreckers on all three levels.

I also trust LSU first-year head coach Lane Kiffin laying points on the road. From 2020-25 at Ole Miss, Kiffin went 8-3 ATS as a road favorite of at least a touchdown, with a +8.3 spread differential.

Covers COVERS INTEL: Kentucky is thin at linebacker: Tavion Wallace and Antwan Smith are out, and head coach Will Stein called the depth situation "scary". Not good when facing an LSU offense averaging 237.8 rushing yards per game.

LSU vs Kentucky Over/Under pick: Under 51.5

I'd trade the Under 51.5 down to 49.5 because LSU should shut Kentucky down, and blowouts are where Overs go to die.

The forecasted wind and rain could hurt the passing and kicking games, which is especially problematic for a Kentucky offense that may need to throw to stay competitive. LSU can take the opposite approach and ground-and-pound the Wildcats, keeping the clock moving and limiting possessions.

There's also a Kiffin angle here. Ole Miss went 7-4 to the Under with a -4.5 margin on the total as a favorite of at least seven points under Kiffin. This may be his best defense yet, and I expect LSU to maul Kentucky.

LSU vs Kentucky combo

I'm expecting LSU to do most of the scoring early, which gives the first-half Over a clear path before the game slows down. If the Tigers build a comfortable lead, Kentucky should be forced into obvious passing situations against one of the country's best pass rushes.

From there, LSU can lean on the ground game, bleed clock, and let its defense take over. That script supports the Tigers covering while keeping the full-game total Under, even if the first half produces plenty of points. See more in our favorite college football combos for Week 6.

LSU vs Kentucky combo

  • Tigers -9.5
  • Under 51.5
  • Over 27.5 first half

LSU vs Kentucky prop: Over 27.5 first half

The Over 27.5 is good up to 55%. I'm basing this pick off trendy reasons and because using it as a combo leg because it'll greatly boost the payout.

The Wildcats have gone Over the first-half total in six of their last seven home games and there were 31 combined points scored in the first half of LSU's only road game this season.

This fits my projected game script: I'm predicting the Tigers go up big early and their defense smothers Kentucky in the second half.
