Colorado should keep things close in Stillwater. I’m backing the Buffaloes at nearly two touchdowns and anticipating a slow start out of the gate.

Marking their first visit to Stillwater since 2009, Colorado takes on Oklahoma State tonight at 7 p.m. ET on FS1.

Kalshi lists the Cowboys as 13.5-point home favorites with an over/under of 56.5, and my Colorado vs. Oklahoma State prediction locks in on the spread, full-game total, and first quarter.

 TOP PICK
Who will win Colorado vs Oklahoma State today? Pick: Colorado +13.5

I'm backing the Colorado Buffaloes +13.5 and would play them down to +12.5. Colorado has one of the most underrated defenses in the country and just delivered its best offensive performance of the season against a better defense than the Oklahoma State Cowboys have.

Colorado averaged a season-high 7.2 yards per play in last week's 27-24 loss to Utah as a 15.5-point underdog. The Utes rank 21st nationally in yards per play allowed, while Oklahoma State sits 68th.

The matchup looks even better through the air. The Cowboys' pass defense has been torched over the last two weeks, allowing opponents to complete 72% of their passes for 608 yards and nine touchdowns.

Oklahoma State will also be without starting safety Mose Phillips III. Check the college football injury report for the latest on both teams. For more spread plays, see our college football Week 8 picks against the spread.

Covers COVERS INTEL: According to GameOnPaper.com, Colorado ranks fourth nationally in EPA per play, adjusted for opponent strength and home-field advantage, with garbage time excluded.

Colorado vs Oklahoma State Over/Under pick: Under 56.5

I'd play Under 56.5 down to 55.5, especially with 55 being a key number for college football totals.

The Buffaloes are also dealing with significant offensive injuries. They'll be without second-leading rusher Micah Welch, who leads the team with two rushing touchdowns, along with offensive lineman Jayven Richardson.

Last week's Over against Utah was misleading, too. The teams combined for just 13 first-half points before Colorado scored a meaningless touchdown with 1:24 remaining.

Outside of that result, the Buffaloes are 1-2 to the Under in Big 12 games this season, and their injuries give me another reason to expect a lower-scoring game. For more totals, see our college football Week 8 Over/Under picks.

Colorado vs Oklahoma State prop: First-quarter Under 13.5

I'd play the first-quarter Under 13.5 down to 10.5.

The Cowboys are prone to slow starts, averaging just 5.0 first-quarter points per game, which ranks 91st nationally. Four of Oklahoma State's five games against FBS opponents have produced 10 or fewer combined first-quarter points.

Colorado allows just 3.4 first-quarter points per game against FBS opponents, ranking 29th nationally. Each of the Buffaloes' five games against FBS programs has also featured 10 or fewer combined first-quarter points.

Colorado vs Oklahoma State combo

I don't need Colorado to win this game. I just need the Buffaloes to make Oklahoma State earn everything.

A slow first quarter would keep Colorado from falling into an early hole and allow this to become the kind of ugly game I'm expecting. If the Buffaloes are still hanging around in the second half, there's no reason for either team to start playing with its hair on fire.

That's the script: start slowly, keep Colorado within striking distance, and force Oklahoma State to grind through four quarters instead of running away with it. For player-level angles, see our Week 8 college football player props and anytime touchdown picks.
