Tanner McKee is back under center for the Eagles as they host the rival Cowboys on Monday Night Football. However, Jason Logan believes the gap in quarterback play isn't as wide as it seems.

The unpredictable (and underwhelming) NFC East took another twist with Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts sidelined due to blood clots for the foreseeable future.

That means Philadelphia will have backup Tanner McKee under center for a second week when the Eagles host the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football. Oddsmakers have Philly as a 4.5-point underdog at Lincoln Financial Field in Week 7.

As bleak as things seem during a four-game losing skid, my Cowboys vs. Eagles prediction isn't writing off the home team on MNF.

Here are my NFL picks for prime time on Oct. 26.

 TOP Pick
Cowboys vs Eagles prediction: Eagles +4.5

It’s scary to bank on a backup QB, but Tanner McKee wasn’t terrible in his first start for the Philadelphia Eagles.

He passed for 215 yards and one touchdown with no interceptions in the loss to Carolina, despite missing plenty of pieces on offense. His cupboard won’t be as bare in Week 7, with star RB Saquon Barkley expected back.

Philadelphia might not need much to outgun a struggling Dallas Cowboys offense that has had the power cut over the last two weeks.

The Cowboys were a Top 3 offense through the opening four games but have sputtered, scoring a combined 29 points in losses to Tampa Bay and Green Bay. Dallas can’t generate any momentum, going a combined 11-for-28 on third and fourth downs in those outings.

Although the offense used to be able to make up for Dallas’ dreadful defense, it seems like nothing is working for the Cowboys heading into MNF.

This is a terrible schedule spot for "America’s Team" as well, playing its second straight road game and third in four weeks, while making its fifth trip in the last five games when factoring in the Week 3 trip to Brazil.

Covers COVERS INTEL: Dallas ranked third in EPA per play on third and fourth downs through the first four weeks (0.401), but has since fallen to dead last in the NFL over its last two games (-0.878).

Cowboys vs Eagles combo

The Eagles are discounted with a backup under center, but the dip from Hurts to McKee is not as big as the market believes. This spread is too hefty for a bad Dallas team to cover on the road in prime time.

DeVonta Smith loves to slice up zone coverage and will do just that against Dallas, finding seams and getting back in the end zone for a second straight week.

Tanner McKee is another week better and gets some weapons back in Week 7. The Cowboys are giving up almost two passing TDs per game, and the price is right on the Eagles’ backup to reach that mark.

Cowboys vs Eagles combo

  • Eagles +4.5
  • DeVonta Smith touchdown
  • Tanner McKee 2+ touchdown passes

Cowboys vs Eagles touchdown scorer: DeVonta Smith

McKee targeted Smith 14 times on 45 attempts last week, including a 19-yard touchdown.

Smith faces the very forgiving Cowboys secondary, which ranks among the worst pass defenses in the land.

Dallas has been blown up by explosive plays, tied for the second most allowed (43), and Smith is a home run hitter who can take the top off this defense.

The Cowboys are running the 10th-highest rate of zone coverage, and Smith has been an elite zone buster during his career in Philly.

Touchdown forecasts sit around 40% for the Eagles wideout on Monday.
