This Monday matchup was supposed to sway the NFC East but the Eagles and Cowboys are at the bottom of the division. Jason Logan gives his early leans and insights into MNF in Week 7.

This Monday Night Football matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys was supposed to be a showdown for the inside track in the NFC East.

Here we sit in Week 7, with both teams at the bottom of the division and Philadelphia missing its starting QB and possibly its star running back.

My Cowboys vs. Eagles predictions shake out the injury reports and see where the edges might hide, giving my early leans and NFL picks for Monday,  Oct. 26.

Early Cowboys vs Eagles spread pick: Cowboys moneyline

I’ll reluctantly lean toward the Dallas Cowboys because of the Philadelphia Eagles' offensive issues, but I’ll take them on the moneyline rather than at -4.5.

The -4 is an underrated key number, and favorites in this spread range often win but come up short against the spread.

This Philly attack was struggling under new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion even before losing QB Jalen Hurts to blood clots and RB Saquon Barkley to a hamstring injury.

And as bad as the Dallas defense is, Eagles backup Tanner McKee isn’t winning me over (maybe we get Joe Milton vs. his former team?). It doesn’t help that the rushing corps is decimated, leaving this playbook looking very one-dimensional. Philadelphia passed on a league-high 78.7% of its plays in Week 6.

The Cowboys offense didn’t look great in Sunday night’s loss at Green Bay, but wasn’t outgained by much. Dak Prescott threw two interceptions in the first half but went 2-for-4 in the red zone. He just couldn't dig Dallas out of the hole in the second half.

Early Cowboys vs Eagles total pick: Under 44.5

For all of their offensive issues, the Eagles defense is still holding it down. At least for 45 minutes.

Philadelphia’s advanced metrics don’t look so sour when you take the fourth quarter out of the mix. The Eagles are giving up almost 10 points per fourth quarter, including 12 in Sunday’s loss to Carolina.

This makes sense considering Philly’s stop unit has logged the second-most time on the field this season. The defense appears to be running out of steam late in games.

Dallas’ offense has enjoyed clean indoor tracks in four of its first six games, but the Cowboys have struggled in their two outdoor outings. Prescott has posted his two lowest yards-per-attempt averages in those games, at 5.1 and 4.8.
