EV Model Rating
Star rating: 3 out of 5
The Tropicana Field roof figures to be closed today, making the temperature in this contest -12° colder than the average outdoor game of all games today — favorable for pitching.. Shane McClanahan will have the benefit of the platoon advantage against Brandon Nimmo in today's game.. Brandon Nimmo hits a high percentage of his flyballs to center field (39.4% — 96th percentile) and has the misfortune of hitting them towards baseball's 9th-deepest CF fences today.. Playing on the road generally lowers hitter metrics in all categories due to the lack of home field advantage, which ought to be the case for Brandon Nimmo in today's matchup.. In the past two weeks, Brandon Nimmo's Barrel% has experienced a negative regression, plummeting from his seasonal rate of 11.9% down to 0%.

The #4 park in the majors for boosting home runs to right-handed batters, via the leading projection system (THE BAT), is Tropicana Field.. Jake Burger will hold the platoon advantage against Shane McClanahan in today's matchup.. Jake Burger pulls many of his flyballs (35.1% — 82nd percentile) and sets up very well considering he'll be hitting them towards the league's 6th-shallowest LF fences today.

It's a getaway game for both clubs, and let's face it, neither offense has looked good out of the break, especially in this series. Minnesota has scored four or more runs in just three of its last 10 games. In the other seven, the Twins have combined for only 11 runs, including last night's 4-0 shutout loss. The Bobby Witt-less Royals haven't been much better offensively, but they did get seven strong innings from Randy Dobnak last night, leaving the bullpen fresh. Minnesota also hasn't needed its high-leverage relievers since the weekend. Even if neither starter goes deep, the late innings should feature the A arms on both sides. These are two of the coldest offenses in baseball right now, and with fresh bullpens, an afternoon getaway game, and an inflated total, I'm betting the Under 9.5 down to 9 at -110. The wind blowing in at 11 mph is the cherry on top.

This matinee might have the best home run matchup on the board. Yankees starter Ryan Weathers is one of the hardest-hit pitchers on today's slate, and his home run luck could finally run out against Chase Meidroth at a massive price. Weathers has been especially vulnerable to right-handed hitters, with 29 of the 35 home runs he has allowed coming in righty-on-righty matchups. That's where I'm finding value today. Meidroth is slugging .564 over the last two weeks, just 17 points behind team leader Munetaka Murakami. His 44% hard-hit rate is the real deal, and his .398 xwOBA ranks second on the club over that stretch, suggesting this isn't just a hot streak. The middle-of-the-order bat already has three hits in this series, all of them for extra bases. The Yankees' bullpen has also shown some cracks, allowing seven runs and three home runs over the first two games. On a short slate, this is the type of long shot I'm willing to back. I'd play it down to +750.

Weather's short extension robs his fastball of late deception, and Chicago's lefties are recognizing it early, exposing his 1.42 HR/9 to their .168 ISO against southpaws.  Burke isn't airtight either: a 3.81 home xFIP and 1.11 HR/9 should allow the Yankees bats to do their share of the scoring today. Both bullpens raise the floor even further; Yankees relievers are walking 13.0% of hitters over the last 14 days, while Chicago's pen carries a 4.09 ERA. I am taking the Over to  8.5 runs.

The underlying numbers point toward runs in this matchup. St. Louis has been consistently producing hard contact, posting nearly a 45% hard hit rate over its last six games, and now faces Javier Assad, who has allowed a 45.10% hard hit rate and nearly an 8% barrel rate across his last five starts. That combination makes this an ideal spot for the Cardinals offense to finally break through. On the other side, the Cubs have been one of the hottest offenses in baseball and should have no problem contributing as well. With both lineups capable of putting up runs, I like the over.

Javier Assad's recent underlying metrics point toward regression, making this a good spot to fade the Cubs. The right hander owns a 4.14 xERA over his last five starts and has struggled on the road all season, allowing plenty of hard contact and barrels. While the Cardinals offense has cooled off, it continues to hit the ball hard, giving it the potential to capitalize against Assad. Andre Pallante has been the steadier arm, posting excellent underlying numbers over his last five outings. With the pitching edge and plus money on St. Louis, the Cardinals are the side I want to back.

I usually break these games down from a baseball perspective, but I think it's worth focusing on the price for Thursday's matchup because that's where the value really lies. Not only do I like the Reds on the moneyline, but Polymarket is offering by far the best number on the board and is significantly off market with their price. The Reds are trading at 48 cents against the Pirates, while most sportsbooks and prediction markets have them priced as a 51-cent favorite. That discrepancy alone makes the 48-cent price at Polymarket appealing, but I think there's even more value than the market suggests because I make the Reds closer to a 54-cent favorite. So, not only do I believe there's value backing the Reds relative to the consensus market price, but that edge is amplified by locking in the 48-cent number at Polymarket on Thursday.

A high total leaves room for a lower-scoring script if Atlanta’s lineup stays quiet. Washington’s bullpen has been sharp lately, while the Braves enter in poor offensive form. The main concern is Atlanta’s struggling relief corps, but if most of the damage comes from Washington, this can still stay contained overall.

Washington has a path behind its recent offensive surge and Atlanta’s pitching uncertainty. Let's take another big swing, this time at Sutter Health Park, where the ball flies, and the Athletics' pitching staff is hanging on by a thread. Mason Barnett is making his first start of the season after working in a bulk relief role. The rotation injuries continue to pile up with Luis Severino, JT Ginn, Jeffrey Springs, and Gunnar Hoglund all sidelined. Barnett is a home-run-prone arm with just a 33% groundball rate and will eventually hand things over to a bullpen that owns an MLB-worst 8.14 ERA over the last two weeks. Andruw Monasterio crushes left-handed pitching, and with three left-handed relievers available in the Athletics' bullpen, he should see favorable matchups throughout the game. Monasterio also leads the Red Sox with a .714 slugging percentage over the last two weeks, while his .511 wOBA ranks sixth in baseball during that span. There should be plenty of balls leaving the yard at Sutter Health Park today.

Let's stay in San Diego and attack the Over on a modest strikeout total for Padres starter JP Sears. The lefty is making a start after spending some time in a bulk relief role. He threw 55 pitches five days ago and has already been stretched out to 95 pitches earlier this season. He likely won't get that far today, but 75-80 pitches is certainly in play. THE BAT projects him around four strikeouts on 72 pitches, but that might be a little conservative. The Giants strike out 2.3% more often against left-handed pitching, and Sears has reached at least three strikeouts in all six of his appearances this season, giving him a solid floor. The Padres also used five bullpen arms yesterday and could be without three right-handed relievers, which adds more value to Sears getting through the lineup multiple times. There is plenty of meat on this bone with a fair price around -125.

Are we taking Robbie Ray seriously enough? Over his last seven starts, Ray has allowed just five earned runs while striking out 35 over 43 innings. He has cleared this number four times during that stretch and missed by the hook twice. His strikeout stuff has also been better on the road for three straight seasons, and his slider — his second-most used pitch at 26% — is generating more whiffs this year than last. Ray has a 100-pitch leash and has hit five-plus strikeouts in back-to-back starts despite throwing just 80 and 86 pitches. He can get there through either volume or efficiency. The Padres are a middle-of-the-pack strikeout offense, ranking 15th in MLB in K%. Expecting 15-18 outs with five punchouts at plus money isn't an aggressive projection. THE BAT has him projected for 94 pitches and 4.77 strikeouts.

Seattle has dropped 15 of its last 20 road games, and things don't get any easier tonight. The Jays third baseman barrels the ball better than anyone in the Blue Jays lineup with a 13.5% barrel rate, while owning a 63.2% hard hit rate against the four-seamer.

Swanson has been one of the worst hitters in baseball this season with a .177 batting average, while ranking in the second percentile in xBA. Additionally, his hitting profile does not match up well at all against Cease, who has elite swing-and-miss stuff.

Atlanta and Chicago send two of the best lineups in baseball to the dish, and they respectively rank eighth and third in wOBA against lefties for the campaign. The two clubs have also trended to the Over, and I'm particularly expecting White Sox southpaw Anthony Kay to struggle considering he's saddled with the fifth-highest xERA in baseball among the 100 pitchers with at least 60 innings this year.

I'm fading Chicago White Sox lefty Anthony Kay on Thursday. He's sporting the fifth-highest xERA among the 100 pitchers with at least 60 innings, after all. Plus, the Atlanta Braves enter ranked eighth in wOBA against southpaws for the season and sixth in overall xwOBA across the past 14 days.

The Yankees rank Top-3 in OPS, ISO, OBP, xWOBA, and hard hit rate when facing left-handed pitching. The Red Sox have hit righties very well over the past four weeks, sitting ninth in wOBA, ninth in ISO, and fourth in batting average. Play the Over to -120.

Ranger Suarez has started four games against teams ranking Top-10 in OPS vs. left-handed pitching, allowing 13 runs and posting a 6.13 ERA during those games. The New York Yankees lead the majors in OPS against lefties so they’re a prime candidate to cause Suarez problems. Playable to -145.

The Giants are pacing the majors in wOBA and are fourth in xwOBA while averaging 5.5 runs per game across the past 30 days, and the Braves ranks ninth in wOBA against right-handed pitchers and third in overall xwOBA, so I think this total is too low.

The Braves have dropped five of six while averaging just 2.8 runs per game and ranking 29th in wOBA without Ronald Acuna Jr. (hamstring), and it’s been a smoke-and-mirrors start for veteran lefty Martin Perez, and there’s serious statistical correction ahead of his .230 BABIP and 80.2% strand rate considering they’re both high-end marks about pitchers with at least 60 innings this season. San Francisco is just the offense to kick-start the regression, too. The Giants are pacing the majors in wOBA and fourth in xwOBA over the past 30 days, after all.

What Is An MLB Computer Pick?

MLB picks are bet suggestions based on our computer's assessment of the game. Tons of betting data goes into a computer pick, including pitching matchups, injury reports, analytics, and even recent betting trends.

How To Use MLB Computer Picks

You can use the tables above to help with your bets during the MLB season. The first section includes free, computer-generated picks for daily Major League Baseball games. Baseball bettors can choose to follow the computer, fade the computer, or simply use our computer picks as one element of their betting strategy.

This page also tees up access to deeper betting trends. For example, if a club's run line is favored, you can check their ATS trends, potentially opening up some quality underdog bets.

If you're ready to get started with MLB betting, visit our dedicated page highlighting the best MLB betting sites.

Moneyline

This is the most common and easiest wager for a bettor to make when it comes to MLB picks. Basically, to win an MLB moneyline pick, you just have to choose which team will win the game.

It's simple: if you bet the White Sox moneyline over the Red Sox and Chicago wins, you win your bet.

Run line

The run line is another name for a point spread that you may be more familiar with in NBA and NFL betting. A point spread varies in the NFL and NBA from as little as 0.5 points up to double-digit spreads. A baseball run line is almost always a 1.5-point spread.

The favorite will be -1.5 while the underdog will be +1.5. At the end of the game, if you take away 1.5 runs from the favorite or add 1.5 runs to the underdog and they end up winning the game, you win your MLB pick against the spread.

Totals (Over/Under)

Another common wager is to bet on the total in baseball, which is a bet on the total runs scored in the baseball game. You are simply choosing whether the final score will be Over or Under that total. Betting the Over/Under on a matchup is a great way to get started in MLB score predictions.

NRFI/YRFI MLB Picks

A new and emerging MLB betting market is the NRFI/YRFI bet. These are quick-hitters in which you make a wager on the O/U total of the first inning, typically set at 0.5 runs. Thus, the bet is coined as No Run First Inning or Yes Run First Inning. No need to wait a couple of hours to cash a bet when it could be done in 20 minutes or less.

First Five Innings MLB Picks

The above options, moneyline, run line, and Over/Under, can also be placed on the first five innings of a game rather than the full game. Many experienced bettors will use this approach because, typically, this will take bullpens out of the equation and make your job researching the game easier. After all, you can just focus on the starting pitchers.

MLB Picks And Parlays

If you want to combine multiple games into one mega wager, you may consider making a parlay bet. A parlay is when you pick two or more MLB games on one single betting ticket, which will increase the payout of your bet.

But it also comes with more risk, as each of those MLB picks must hit for your ticket to pay out. Our parlay calculator is a great tool to find out what your potential payout would be.

MLB Player Props

Player props are a great way to hone in on an individual matchup for a game. These types of wagers will be individualized for a player: Will Shohei Ohtani hit a home run? Will Gerrit Cole get seven strikeouts? Will Paul Skenes allow two earned runs?

You simply choose whether this outcome will happen or not. Keeping up to date on daily pitching matchups and batters on a hot streak can give you a huge boost when placing player prop bets.

MLB Futures Picks

Lastly, prior to the season and even throughout the season, you can place futures bets on all the long-term awards and outcomes. You can lock in an MLB pick on who will win their division, which squad will win the World Series, or even who will win the Rookie of the Year, MVP, or Cy Young.
