Chase Burns is reliant on the strikeout and dishes out far too many walks for my liking. The Marlins will not go fishing (seventh in chase rate) and draw walks at a decent rate (13th), making this a tough matchup for the Reds ace. Burns' opposite number, Sandy Alcantara, punched out 6+ batters for the fourth time in seven games when last seen. Cincinnati is one of the more undisciplined teams in baseball (third-most Ks). Finally, both bullpens are Top 7 in xERA in August, so the total should stay low, even in GABP. Play to +400.
The Padres are at a great price as they look to build on a 15-4 run vs. a Guardians team that's 8-16 in the second half. Cleveland SP Gavin Williams is a strikeout maestro, but San Diego is ninth in K-rate this season. Williams is in the single-digits in barrel% and hard-hit%, while the Padres are Top 10 in both metrics. Two batters that can really give him trouble are Fernando Tatis Jr. and Ty France. Tatis has a .926 OPS this month and has already recorded 11 runs atop the order. France is batting .341 in August and boasts an 88th percentile hard-hit rate. Play to +280.
We already know how great Vladdy's numbers are in this matchup, but coming off a shutout, the Blue Jays should be able to keep this close. Overall, Toronto owns a .277 xBA and .423 xSLG against Cole across 160 plate appearances, a sample size we absolutely love to see. We're going to see some balls in play here, too, as the Yankees ace is rocking a minuscule 17% K rate against this lineup. Let's cash one tonight.
