Notre Dame is poised to take out its frustration on a scuffling Navy program, making this 30.5-point spread still too low.

For the 99th time, Notre Dame and Navy play today at noon ET (ABC), with this year's edition of the rivalry game coming from Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass.

The Fighting Irish are 30.5-point favorites, and my Notre Dame vs. Navy predictions and college football picks project CJ Carr and the offense to continue Marcus Freeman's success against the Midshipmen on Saturday, Oct. 31.

Who will win Notre Dame vs Navy: Notre Dame -30.5

Playing in an NFL stadium, Notre Dame's CJ Carr will look like a pro against a Navy defense that's one of the worst in recent memory. So while this is a large spread, given Marcus Freeman's success against Navy (4-1 ATS), I like the Fighting Irish to cover -30.5 or better.

The key will be slowing Navy QB Jackson Gutierrez, who's rushed for 599 yards and eight touchdowns in his last three games. Gutierrez has been the Midshipmen's only consistent threat this season, and Notre Dame has the linebacker play to handle him and the triple-option.

The Fighting Irish defense ranks fourth nationally in rush success rate (33.9%) and second in available yards percentage (30.4%). Even if Gutierrez leads Navy to 13+ points, Notre Dame's offense should score 45+.

TOP PICK
Notre Dame vs Navy Over/Under pick: Over 55.5

With the recent history of this game and how bad Navy's defense has been this season, I like the Over at 56.5 or better.

Notre Dame has had zero issues scoring against the Midshipmen during Freeman's tenure, averaging 42.2 points per game, and Navy is a lot worse this year than in recent years.

In the previous two seasons, the Fighting Irish averaged 50 points per game against the Midshipmen (the Over hit in both). Those two Navy teams won 10+ games, and this year's team is 2-5 with a defense ranked 102nd by SP+.

However, Navy's offense has been solid with Gutierrez, who has the fourth-most runs of 10+ yards in the country (28) and has the Midshipmen ranked in the Top 10 in rush success rate (49.8%). He'll be able to help Navy score in the double digits, and Notre Dame will do the rest.

Covers COVERS INTEL: Notre Dame has arguably the most efficient offense in the country, ranking No. 1 nationally in available yards percentage (64.3%) and No. 7 in offensive success rate (50.9%).

Notre Dame vs Navy combo

In my Top 25 predictions this week, I ranked this game the lowest in terms of watch priority because of how poorly Navy's defense has played this season and how thoroughly Freeman has beaten the Midshipmen.

In two of Navy's best seasons in program history, Notre Dame beat the Midshipmen by an average of 38 points. This game could be 38-0 at halftime based on Navy's issues stopping the pass this season.

Navy's defense has been so bad that the team is an Over machine, despite running the triple-option. The Midshipmen have hit the Over in five of seven games, including three straight.

Notre Dame vs Navy combo

  • Notre Dame -30.5
  • Over 55.5
  • First half Over 30.5

Notre Dame vs Navy prop: Notre Dame TT Over 42.5

In Navy's three games against programs with strong passing attacks (FAU, UTSA, North Texas), it allowed 41.6 points per game. Those three offenses have an average SP+ ranking of 36.6; Notre Dame's offense is ranked No. 3.

With how poorly the Midshipmen matchup up with the Fighting Irish, their team total Over is worth playing as high as 44.5. Carr is top 10 in the country in QBR (84.9) and has led Notre Dame to 49+ points in three of his last six games.

Navy's defense ranks 118th in pass success rate (49.4%) and 137th in EPA per dropback. Notre Dame's offense ranks fifth in pass success rate (54.1%) and sixth in EPA per dropback.

Notre Dame vs Navy market trends

No one is giving Navy much love today, as nearly all of the trading is in Notre Dame's favor.
