Expert NHL moneyline picks: Oct. 24
Ducks vs Flyers pick:
Flyers
The Philadelphia Flyers have started to find a rhythm, winning three straight. That streak even includes a win over the Avalanche, one of the best teams in the league. The Anaheim Ducks, meanwhile, have dropped five in a row, allowing 12 goals in their last three. I'll take the surging Flyers.
Kings vs Devils pick:
Devils
The New Jersey Devils are 4-1 in their last five games, and they're facing a Los Angeles Kings team that has struggled immensely on both ends of the ice. The Devils also have a clear advantage in shot creation and on special teams. They will cruise in this spot.
Predators vs Penguins pick:
Penguins
The Pittsburgh Penguins just ended a four-game skid with a statement 4-0 victory over the Florida Panthers, and they will carry that confidence into this matchup with the Nashville Predators. The Preds just lost 6-0 to the Boston Bruins and have now dropped four of their last five. I like the Pens as a home favorite.
Sabres vs Capitals pick:
Capitals
The Washington Capitals have a significant special teams advantage against the Buffalo Sabres. The visitors have one of the worst penalty kills in the league, and they're allowing 3.6 goals per game. Washington's offense has looked solid, and they have an opportunity to exploit Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen's vulnerabilities in net.
Maple Leafs vs Oilers pick:
Oilers
Connor McDavid has already reached 30 points in just 10 games, and the Edmonton Oilers are flying. They possess the league's most explosive offense, and the Toronto Maple Leafs have been vulnerable, ranking 18th with 3.17 goals allowed per contest. The Oilers will keep rolling.
Sharks vs Bruins pick:
Bruins
The Boston Bruins have registered six wins in their last seven games, and just beat the Preds by six goals. They're top-five in goals scored and fewest goals allowed as well. While the San Jose Sharks are also in good form, Boston has the defensive and goaltending advantage.
Golden Knights vs Blue Jackets pick:
Golden Knights
Carter Hart has been dominant in goal for the Vegas Golden Knights, who have been a much more complete team so far than the Columbus Blue Jackets. While they're both in the midst of two-game losing skids, the Golden Knights' consistency on both ends of the ice makes them a cleaner look.
Hurricanes vs Blues pick:
Hurricanes
The Carolina Hurricanes are a dominant 6-1-1 on the road and have looked the part of the Stanley Cup champions, ranking third in goals, second in SOG, and top-seven in fewest goals allowed and SOG allowed. Their offensive brilliance will overwhelm the surging St. Louis Blues.
Rangers vs Senators pick:
Rangers
The New York Rangers are worth a look as an underdog tonight. They have an elite penalty kill, and the Ottawa Senators have struggled to consistently create offense. I like the Rangers at an attractive 47% price.
Lightning vs Mammoth pick:
Mammoth
The Utah Mammoth boast the NHL's best power play at 38.5% and has averaged 3.73 goals per game this season. The Tampa Bay Lightning are playing the second night of a back-to-back after losing 6-3 to Colorado on Friday, giving the well-rested Mammoth a favorable opportunity to capitalize at home.
Red Wings vs Flames pick:
Red Wings
The Calgary Flames have been a disaster defensively, surrendering 4.22 goals per game while scoring just 2.11 per contest. The Detroit Red Wings have been far more reliable at the other end, allowing only 2.80 goals per game, and the Red Wings should have plenty of offensive opportunities against a struggling Flames squad.
Wild vs Kraken pick:
Wild
The Minnesota Wild have been excellent defensively, allowing just 2.45 goals per game, while the Seattle Kraken are surrendering 31.5 shots per contest. The Wild also have a favorable special-teams matchup, with their 25.7% power play facing a Kraken penalty kill operating at just 68.8%.
Today's NHL moneyline combo
Boston is one of the NHL's hottest teams, winning six of its last seven while allowing just 2.00 goals per game.
New Jersey has also won four of five and faces a Kings squad struggling offensively.
I'll round out the combo with Edmonton, which boasts the league's highest-scoring offense at 4.6 goals per game.
McDavid is already over 30 points this season, and I expect the Oilers to stay hot.
