Expert NHL moneyline picks: Nov. 1
Jets vs Hurricanes pick:
Hurricanes
The Carolina Hurricanes lead the NHL in both expected goals share (59.92%) and expected goals for (38.16) at 5-on-5.
Carolina has won three in a row, four of its last five, and four straight meetings with the Winnipeg Jets — who are mired in a brutal eight-game losing streak.
Wild vs Capitals pick:
Wild
The Minnesota Wild have allowed the second-fewest goals in the league and rank second in expected goals for in all situations (58.81%). Their -12.37 goals below expected is the worst mark in the NHL, suggesting they're in for some statistical correction.
Although the Washington Capitals are winners of three straight, they were favorites in each and are now going up against one of the most complete teams in hockey.
Mammoth vs Flyers pick:
Mammoth
The Utah Mammoth have won all four meetings against the Philadelphia Flyers in their franchise's short history.
Philly has lost three in a row and seven of their last 10, while Utah ranks seventh in goals scored and fourth in expected goals share (57.24%).
The Mammoth offense is somewhat offset by a subpar defense, but this is a terrific matchup as the Flyers have scored the second-fewest goals in the league.
Oilers vs Rangers pick:
Oilers
The 10-2-2 Edmonton Oilers are underdogs?
While the New York Rangers are 6-1-0 at home this season, Connor McDavid & Co. are a spotless 6-0-0 on the road and have won five of their last seven overall.
Meanwhile, the Blueshirts have dropped three straight, with netminder Dylan Garand managing a lowly .838 SV%.
Senators vs Ducks pick:
Senators
The Anaheim Ducks have allowed four or more goals in four straight games and rank 30th in the NHL in goals allowed (40) over their last 10 contests.
They've lost seven of their last eight games (six in regulation) and are just 1-4-1 at Honda Center this season. Meanwhile, the Ottawa Senators rank fifth in expected goals for (49.78) and have a fantastic matchup against one of the weaker defenses in hockey.
Today's NHL moneyline combo
The Wild have among the strongest underlying numbers in the league, the Oilers have been perfect on the road, and their McDavid-led offense matches up well against a struggling netminder.
Ottawa can similarly expose a faltering Anaheim defense that has struggled at home this season.
