Ottawa Senators captain Thomas Chabot quietly leads the team in attempts per game.
Favored against a San Jose Sharks team bleeding shots, my Senators vs. Sharks prediction sees Chabot putting at least a couple of pucks on target.
Let's dive deeper into my NHL picks for Saturday, Oct. 31.
Senators vs Sharks prediction: San Jose Sharks moneyline
I see value on the San Jose Sharks to 49%.
The Ottawa Senators are 7-1-0 in Linus Ullmark starts and 1-4-1 without him.
He was playing at a Vezina-caliber level before his injury, and the goaltending has completely cratered without him.
The Senators own an .837 team save percentage since Ullmark went down, with both Sam Ersson and Jonas Johansson bleeding goals.
The Sharks have their flaws, but they can score, sitting tied for 15th in goals per 60. Macklin Celebrini and co. are definitely capable of producing vs. subpar netminding.
An added bonus: the Sharks haven’t traveled in a week, leaving them with a full tank for this game.

Senators vs Sharks combo
San Jose’s offense is in a good spot to score in bulk against a Senators team that has given up 20 goals over four games since Ullmark went down.
I’m backing their big guns, Celebrini and Will Smith, to do the heavy lifting. Celebrini is one of the league’s best finishers and leads the Sharks in xG. He is licking his chops for the chance to face these Senators goaltenders.
Smith has points in six of his last nine games and was reunited with Celebrini at 5-on-5 last time out. Even if the Sharks break them up again, they still correlate on the top power play.
Senators vs Sharks combo
- San Jose Sharks moneyline
- Macklin Celebrini anytime goal
- Will Smith Over 0.5 points
TOP PICK
Senators vs Sharks player prop: Thomas Chabot Over 1.5 shots
I’m on Thomas Chabot to record a pair of shots to 61%.
Ottawa's captain is averaging 2.2 shots on 5.6 attempts in games he started and finished without injury.
He went Over 1.5 shots in six of nine such games, including all four against Bottom-12 shot suppression teams.
Chabot’s totals spiked in those advantageous matchups, averaging 2.8 shots on 7.3 attempts.
The Sharks are one of just four teams allowing more than 30 shots per game and sit 31st in shots allowed per 60.
Senators vs Sharks goal scorer: Macklin Celebrini
I’d play Celebrini for a goal to 44%.
San Jose’s superstar center is off to a slow start by his own standards. Even so, he's still averaging well over a point per game while leading the Sharks in xG and sitting second in goals.
Ottawa has gotten .837 goaltending since Ullmark went down, and neither goalie can provide even average netminding.
A high-volume shooter like Celebrini is the perfect candidate to take advantage.
