We might see a blowout tonight, so I'm riding with Colorado on the puck line in my Flames vs. Avalanche predictions.
The Colorado Avalanche host the Calgary Flames at Ball Arena as massive 80% favorites at Novig, and for good reason. Some heads could be rolling on Halloween when the puck drops at 10 p.m. ET.
Tap into my Halloween NHL picks for Saturday, Oct. 31, and let's go to work.
TOP PICK
Flames vs Avalanche prediction: Avalanche -2.5
Playable to even money, the Colorado Avalanche come into this one as winners of two of their last three and are finally playing some solid hockey.
That Artturi Lehkonen-Nathan MacKinnon-Martin Necas line is starting to click, ranking just inside the top 20 in expected goals among lines that have played at least 50 minutes together this season.
Meanwhile, the Calgary Flames have recalled Arsenii Sergeev from the AHL, and he'll make just his second career NHL start between the pipes against the Avalanche. Good luck with that.

Flames vs Avalanche combo
The Flames' -16 goal differential is the second-worst in hockey, and with Sergeev making just his second career start against an offensive powerhouse, this has all the makings of a game that will go Over the total.
To help get us there, I'm looking at volume, and no two Avalanche forwards log more ice time than MacKinnon and Necas.
Calgary is also one of the least disciplined teams in hockey, spelling trouble against an Avalanche power play that should pay dividends for us.
Flames vs Avalanche combo
- Nathan MacKinnon 2+ points
- Over 6.5
- Martin Necas 1+ assist
Flames vs Avalanche player prop: Nathan MacKinnon 2+ points
MacKinnon has registered at least one point in three straight games, accumulating six points over that span. Meanwhile, the Avs score the second-most goals per game at 4.15; the Flames give up close to four goals a game.
I'm not a math major here, but the odds are tilting in our direction for a lopsided affair. With the Avs expected to dominate puck possession, let's see MacKinnon find the scoresheet a handful of times in the nightcap.
Flames vs Avalanche goal scorer: Artturi Lehkonen
Lehkonen has 10 goals in 13 games, ranking tied for fourth in the NHL, and he gets a ton of volume on the first line.
The matchup ain't bad, either. Colorado defeated Calgary 7-3 earlier this season, and the Flames are playing the second half of a back-to-back after facing Seattle on Friday.
Lehkonen's finishing touch, top-line role, and Colorado's offensive firepower make him one of the game's most intriguing scoring threats.
