William Nylander is Toronto's leading shot-generator and will have plenty of opportunities to shoot against the league's worst shot-suppression team.

William Nylander is pacing the Toronto Maple Leafs in shot attempts and shots on goal.

With a scary good matchup against the Vancouver Canucks, who rank last in shot suppression, Nylander headlines my three NHL predictions and NHL picks for a jam-packed slate on Saturday, Oct. 31.

Pick #1: Matthew Schaefer Over 2.5 shots

Novig probability: 55%

Matthew Schaefer to record 3+ shots is playable to 63%.

He leads all NHL blueliners in shot attempts, shots on goal, and scoring chances. He always looks to get up in the play and add another layer of offense, which is necessary with the New York Islanders lacking dynamic forwards.

Schaefer is averaging 3.8 shots per game and 4.7 when playing on home soil. He has also produced 5.3 SOG per game following one day off, going Over 2.5 in six of seven.

Limiting an offense led by Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl is borderline impossible, so the Isles will need Schaefer to get involved to keep up.

  • Matchup: Edmonton Oilers vs. New York Islanders
  • Time: 2:00 p.m. ET
  • Location: UBS Arena, Elmont, N.Y.
  • TV: SN, ESPN+

Pick #2: William Nylander Over 2.5 shots

Novig probability: 54%

William Nylander is a target for 3+ shots to 59%.

He has cleared 2.5 shots at a 60% rate this season and in four of five games against Bottom-12 shot-suppression teams.

He attempted seven shots in the exception and, dating back to last season, has registered 3+ shots in 25 of his last 30 games when hitting that mark.

The Vancouver Canucks are dead last in shots allowed at 5-on-5 and on the penalty kill. It’s the best possible spot for Nylander, who also had two days off to recharge the batteries for this mouthwatering matchup.

  • Matchup: Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Vancouver Canucks
  • Time: 7:00 p.m. ET
  • Location: Rogers Arena, Vancouver
  • TV: SN, ESPN+

Pick #3: Jack Quinn Over 0.5 points

Novig probability: 56%

Jack Quinn to record a point is playable to 60%.

The Los Angeles Kings no longer live up to their reputation as a strong defensive team. They sit 20th in expected goals against at 5-on-5 and 23rd while killing penalties.

Combine that with the 27th-ranked save percentage, and they are giving up plenty of goals, conceding 3.5 times per game.

Quinn hit the scoresheet in a healthy 59% of his games against Bottom-12 defensive teams last year while averaging 15 minutes.

He is averaging more than 19 minutes this season and is the Buffalo Sabres' second-leading producer. He has a point in 62% of all games, and five of six vs. Bottom-12 defenses.

  • Matchup: Buffalo Sabres vs. Los Angeles Kings
  • Time: 4:00 p.m. ET
