My analysis
The Boston Bruins continue to surprise a lot of people this season as they battle for the top spot in the Atlantic Division. They’re now the favorites to come out on top, with the Florida Panthers breathing down their necks.
The Bruins are led by David Pastrnak, who is currently on the top line with Danton Heinen and center Pavel Zacha. Zacha, along with Charlie Coyle and Morgan Geekie, has stepped up in the middle for Boston as the B’s lost both Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci in the offseason.
Zacha blossomed in Boston last year with 57 points (21 goals, 36 assists) in 82 games and is on an even better pace this season, with 56 points (19 goals, 37 assists) through 75 games. He’s primarily played with Pastrnak at 5-on-5 while getting a crack on the power play as well.
The former Devil has made the most of his time in the top six with the Bruins. He’s had two six-game point (and assist) streaks over the past month-plus with 17 points (13 assists) in his last 15 games. He’s recorded an assist in 12 of those 15 contests as well.
Although the oddsmakers have this total set lower at 5.5 or six, the Bruins should be able to get a few goals on the board in Pittsburgh. The Penguins have allowed 12 goals in their past three games, including a 6-5 overtime win on Thursday night.
Zacha has been undervalued in the player prop market all season, and that continues here. Odds of +135 imply a 42.55% probability. Zacha has an assist in 33 of 75 games this season 44%), and 19 of his last 32 games (59%).
