The Edmonton Oilers are sizable home favorites over the Calgary Flames ahead of their 8:30 p.m. ET puck drop at Rogers Place on Wednesday, Oct. 27.
My favorite Flames vs. Oilers predictions and NHL picks expect Edmonton to win this Battle of Alberta thanks to a big night from its top line.
TOP PICK
Flames vs Oilers prediction: Oilers moneyline
The Edmonton Oilers moneyline is in play up to 66% because they pace the NHL in goals per game (4.25) and power-play percentage (35%) and are drawing Calgary Flames goalie Devin Cooley at the perfect time.
Cooley is scorching along an unsustainable stretch of four consecutive wins with a .954 save percentage with 10.26 goals saved above expected.
Considering Cooley posted a .909 SV% with 27.87 GSAx across 31 games last season, there’s an onslaught of statistical correction coming for the 29-year-old netminder. Remember, he allowed 10 goals over his first two starts of the year, too.
Of course, I also value the Edmonton superstar tandem of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl ranking first and second in points per 60 minutes and combining for 20 goals and 58 points through 12 games.

Flames vs Oilers combo
The Flames have scored the sixth-fewest goals per game, so I’m not expecting Calgary to score enough to help send this total Over the number.
Edmonton is also set to improve on its unsustainably low .867 team SV% at 5-on-5 over the past four games.
Turning to Oil winger Vasily Podkolzin, he’s skating with McDavid and Draisaitl in all situations, and the Russian winger has found the scoresheet in nine of 12 games for a high-end 3.4 points per 60 minutes.
Flames vs Oilers combo
- Oilers moneyline
- Under 6.5
- Vasily Podkolzin 1+ points
Flames vs Oilers player prop: Vasily Podkolzin 1+ points
This Podkolzin point prop is in play to 60% because of his go-to offensive role and success skating with McDavid and Draisaitl.
The trio have been on the ice for an elite 7.82 goals per 60 minutes and have dominated 5-on-5 possession with a 61.6 Corsi For percentage, after all.
Flames vs Oilers goal scorer: Vasily Podkolzin
Sticking with Podkolzin, he’s been limited to a single goal across the past six games after scoring seven times through six contests to start the year.
He’s remained dangerous with 1.53 individual expected goals and nine high-danger scoring chances during the six-game stretch, so I recommend him to find the back of the net up to 36% tonight.
