The Colorado Avalanche are a perfect 8-0 at home after two days of rest since the start of last season.
My Devils vs. Avalanche prediction sees them building on those exceptional results, with Artturi Lehkonen finding the scoresheet along the way.
Let's dive deeper into my NHL picks for Wednesday, Oct. 28.

Devils vs Avalanche prediction: Avalanche moneyline
I like the Colorado Avalanche to 60%.
The Avalanche had two days to rest and prepare for this game while the New Jersey Devils played in Dallas last night. That scheduling edge should shine through.
Colorado won all six home games after two days off last season and is 2-for-2 to start this year. The Avs scored six goals in both games and beat the Lightning and Blues 12-4 on aggregate.
They are a miserable offense to slow down, even at their best. When they have a rest advantage at altitude? Almost impossible.
Jake Allen has not played all that well to date, allowing 3.2 goals more than expected through seven appearances. Colorado should get to him.

Devils vs Avalanche combo
I’m combining Colorado on the moneyline with Artturi Lehkonen to pick up a point and Nathan MacKinnon to score.
Lehkonen ranks Top 10 in 5-on-5 points and has been ultra-efficient in that state. New Jersey is one of the league's most disciplined teams, so even-strength production is imperative.
MacKinnon has six goals through six games in Colorado this year, and has tallied five goals over the last four games against New Jersey.

TOP PICK
Devils vs Avalanche player prop: Artturi Lehkonen Over 0.5 points
I’m on Lehkonen for a point and would play to 59%.
Colorado’s top line of Lehkonen, MacKinnon, and Martin Necas has been unstoppable at 5-on-5, controlling better than 72% of the xG share while scoring 8.2 goals per 60 minutes.
Lehkonen has more than played his part. He has 11 points at 5-on-5 through 12 games, tying him for eighth in the NHL.
Both teams rank Top 6 in pace, meaning we should see high-event hockey.
Allen has not been overly sharp this year, posting a -3.2 Goals Saved Above Expected through seven starts.
Finally, Lehkonen has points in nine of his last 10 games after two days of rest, dating back to last season.
Devils vs Avalanche goal scorer: Nathan MacKinnon
MacKinnon is averaging 6.2 shots on goal per game in Colorado this year, making it no coincidence he’s found the net in four of six home dates.
The high speed and pace the Devils play with fit MacKinnon’s skillset perfectly, and that showed when the two sides played earlier this month.
MacKinnon recorded five shots on 11 attempts and was a consistent scoring threat.
He should have extra pep in his step after two days off, while New Jersey plays the second night of a road back-to-back at altitude.
