Given Will Hammond's limitations under center, the Wildcats present strong underdog value in this ranked Big 12 showdown.

There's a monster Big 12 matchup on Halloween as Arizona heads to Texas Tech for a game between two 6-1 squads that will inevitably shake up the standings.

My Arizona vs. Texas Tech prediction questions Will Hammond's quality, and the best of my college football picks takes a look at a total of 54.5 that might be too high.

This game will be broadcast on ESPN at 12 p.m. ET on Saturday, Oct. 31.

 TOP PICK
Who will win Arizona vs Texas Tech: Arizona +3.5

Play Arizona at anything +3 or above.

Texas Tech has a quarterback problem. Will Hammond has 13 turnover-worthy passes to pair with only eight big-time throws (per PFF), and his limitations have resulted in the third least-explosive passing attack in the nation.

That makes them one-dimensional offensively, and it plays into Arizona's run-stopping defense. The Red Raiders don't block well enough up front (118th in front seven havoc allowed) to compensate for the quarterback deficiency.

Tech's secondary has been hit for 266.1 passing yards per game, so the Wildcats (10th in passing success rate) will be able to chuck it around.

Covers COVERS INTEL: Noah Fifita has been elite, averaging 9.2 yards per attempt and ranking second among Big 12 passers with 114.5 total PPA.

Arizona vs Texas Tech Over/Under pick: Under 54.5

Tech's offensive limitations will show through in this matchup. Arizona's defense (14th in EPA per play, 11th in success rate) is much better than the market is accounting for, as it doesn't have name recognition but is well-coordinated under Danny Gonzales.

On the flip side, Tech's defense checks in at 16th in EPA per play allowed and 10th in PFF's team defense grade. The strength of this team still resides on that side of the ball, and Joey McGuire will attempt to lean on that unit and minimize possessions for Fifita.

Arizona's top three wide receivers have all been out. Tre Spivey is done for the year, while Giovanni Richardson and Chris Hunter III are considered questionable. The Wildcats can still move the ball in the air, but the efficiency won't be at its peak given the cluster injuries.

Arizona vs Texas Tech combo

Arizona got off to slow starts against Washington State and Northern Illinois, and could do so again during a difficult trip to Lubbock.

Texas Tech has cashed the First Half Under in eight of its last 13 games. Given Hammond's turnover-prone ways and overall offensive issues, the defense should be the focal point over the second half of the season.
