The Bruins survive and advance in a low-scoring contest without creating much margin, given the situational factors involved.

UCLA (93%) looks to remain undefeated as they host Nevada (7%) at the Rose Bowl in Week 9.

My Nevada vs. UCLA prediction envisions yet another low-scoring Bruins game, and my college football picks go operate under that presumption.

Tune into this contest on Saturday, Oct. 31, at 4:15 pm ET on the Big Ten Network.

 TOP PICK
Who will win Nevada vs UCLA: Nevada +21.5

I'd play Nevada at any number above 21.

UCLA has been a covering machine at 7-0 ATS, but no team goes perfect against the number over the course of the season. This is essentially a throwaway game as a mid-season non-conference game preceding a trip to Minnesota next week, so I'm fading the Bruins in a disadvantageous spot.

The Bruins' offense hasn't shown much verve with Ty Dieffenbach at quarterback, averaging 20.7 ppg in their last three. It'll be difficult to find margin in a low-total environment, which is a situation that better suits the three-score underdog.

Covers COVERS INTEL: Last week, UCLA managed just 0.032 EPA per play against a Michigan State defense absent several starters.

Nevada vs UCLA Over/Under pick: Under 43.5

Dieffenbach has more career turnover-worthy passes (14) than big-time throws (13). That's a major red flag, as UCLA's offense is outside the top 100 in EPA per pass and passing success rate.

The Bruins will keep the ball on the ground (57.5% rush rate), and will do so at a leisurely pace. They snap the ball every 29.3 seconds, the 128th-fastest tempo, which slows games down to a halt and limits scoring chances for the opposition.

They're deadly effective on defense (second in EPA per play, third in success rate) and will shut down a Nevada offense managing just 335.4 total yards across its last five games, all against much worse competition than UCLA.

Nevada vs UCLA combo

Here's betting against an offensive explosion for UCLA when it has little motivation to find margin. The goal is to simply win and control this game before moving on in their push toward the playoffs.

The Bruins will keep the ball on the ground and milk the clock, keeping this contest low-scoring and within a reasonable margin.
