The Kansas City Royals head to DC tonight to begin a three-game set with the Washington Nationals, who have won back-to-back games.

My Royals vs. Nationals predictions and MLB picks are targeting Washington to keep it rolling behind Andrew Alvarez's impressive form at home.

Who will win Royals vs Nationals today: Nationals moneyline (-130)

The Kansas City Royals hand Mitch Spence the baseball tonight after he was recalled from Triple-A Omaha. There's not a huge track record for him this season, having made just one appearance on April 18, where Spence allowed six earned runs to the Yankees.

However, his numbers in Omaha weren't exactly pretty this season. He had an ERA well over 6.00 while allowing 1.27 home runs per nine innings. Additionally, Spence was allowing 9.91 hits per nine innings as well, and that's a dangerous sign against a Washington Nationals lineup that's batting .280 over the last week while carrying a 41.5% hard hit rate and .455 xSLG.

On the other side, Andrew Alvarez owns a 4.61 FIP across his last two starts, but he's pitched extremely well at Nationals Park this season, posting a 2.46 xFIP while allowing just 0.95 HR/9. If he can continue limiting damage at home, Washington should be in a strong position to capitalize on the favorable pitching matchup.

I'll play this pick up to -150.

Covers COVERS INTEL: Andrew Alvarez has induced ground balls at a 62.5% clip over the last two weeks, suggesting his recent underlying numbers may be somewhat inflated given his ability to keep the ball on the ground.

Royals vs Nationals Over/Under pick: Over 9.5 (-110)

Both of these lineups are thriving at the moment. The Royals are averaging 5.15 runs per game over the last two weeks while carrying an impressive 43.2% hard-hit rate during that span. I expect Alvarez to limit the damage, but he won't be flawless either, and Washington's bullpen spells trouble.

This Nats relief corps owns a brutal 5.23 FIP over the last seven days while allowing 1.57 HR/9. They've also given up a 40.5% hard-hit rate, and that's concerning against a Royals team that's consistently squaring up the baseball.

Washington, meanwhile, should capitalize on Spence's inconsistencies, but they also have a clear opportunity to tack on runs when the Royals pen enters. KC's relievers have compiled a 4.70 xERA across their last 27 1/3 innings of work, and they've surrendered 1.65 HR/9. The Nats are sixth in the big leagues in homers.

I'll play this pick up to -115.
