The Padres' offense will thrive against Kyle Freeland and a struggling Rockies bullpen.

With Walker Buehler on the hill, the San Diego Padres are priced as a massive 64% moneyline favorite tonight against the lowly Colorado Rockies as I make my Padres vs Rockies predictions. First pitch is scheduled for 8:40 p.m. ET at Coors Field.

While Monday's contest was close, my MLB picks for Tuesday, Sept. 15 are eyeing San Diego to create separation tonight.

Who will win Padres vs Rockies today: Padres -1.5 (55%)

For help understanding probabilities, see our odds calculator.

The San Diego Padres go with Walker Buehler this evening, and he's been respectable lately, posting a 3.17 xERA over the last month while holding opponents to a 31.3% hard-hit rate. He'll face a Colorado Rockies lineup with a poor 87 wRC+ over the last week and minimal power.

Meanwhile, Kyle Freeland is making his first appearance since Aug. 19 due to a neck injury. He's also been struggling at home this season while posting a 4.51 FIP. I expect his leash to be short after returning from the IL.

Colorado's bullpen has also been limping along, posting a 6.82 FIP over its last 25 innings, and San Diego's offense is swinging with authority.

Take the visitors with confidence, and play this up to 58%.

Covers COVERS INTEL: The Padres boast one of the hottest lineups in the majors, posting a 144 wRC+ in the last week. That's 44 points above their season average of 100.

Padres vs Rockies Over/Under pick: Under 11.5 (52%)

I don't expect this to be a low-scoring contest, but an 11.5 total is extremely high. Yes, the Rockies' pitching staff is giving up a ton of runs, but San Diego's relief corps has been steady, posting a 3.32 xERA recently.

That should give the Padres stability once Buehler's night ends, and Colorado simply isn't producing consistently at the plate right now. For this game to clear 11.5, one side will likely need to do a lot of the heavy lifting offensively, and I don't see enough from the Rockies to count on that.

The Under is the better look at this number, so play it up to 55%.

Padres vs Rockies home run prediction: Jackson Merrill (19%)

Jackson Merrill is one of San Diego's hottest hitters right now. He owns a .500 ISO over the last week with three home runs and loud underlying metrics.

The outfielder boasts a 60.9% hard-hit rate and 26.1% barrel rate during that span while also batting .462. Kyle Freeland has allowed 1.62 HR/9 at Coors Field this season, while the Rockies' bullpen is surrendering 1.80 HR/9 across the last week.

Merrill offers immense value at this price, and of course, the altitude in Denver only helps his chances of going deep.

Play this to 25%.

Padres vs Rockies weather

Weather conditions should be favorable for hitters at Coors Field tonight. Temperatures will sit around the low 70s near first pitch before dropping into the mid-60s later in the evening. Winds will be relatively light, and while there's a slight chance of precipitation, it shouldn't impact the game significantly.
