There are 14 games on the NHL slate tonight, including an all-Canadian matchup between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Vancouver Canucks

William Nylander is set to return to the lineup, and I expect him to bring some much-needed energy to Toronto’s game.

Find out why with my Maple Leafs vs. Canucks predictions and NHL picks for Saturday, January 31.

Maple Leafs vs Canucks prediction

Maple Leafs vs Canucks best bet: William Nylander Over 2.5 shots (+140)

William Nylander is expected to return to the lineup tonight when the Toronto Maple Leafs face off against the Vancouver Canucks on the road.

He’s missed the last seven games for the Maple Leafs, and the team went just 1-5-1 in his absence, and has essentially fallen out of the playoff race.

However, Nylander only has three contests before the Olympics to tune up his game, and I’m expecting him to pick up where he left off.

Nylander had 12 points in six games before leaving in a game against Vegas on January 15. One of which was a three-point outing against these very Canucks.

He hasn’t been shooting the puck as much this season, averaging just 2.02 shots per game, which explains why the Over is paying so much.

That shot total is way down from his previous four-year average of 3.41 shots per game. I’m expecting him to be closer to the ladder with the Leafs' playoff odds waning and their significant need for more offense.

I’m anticipating Nylander to be all over the puck tonight and should end up in good areas to get shots off, especially with Vancouver struggling so much in their own zone.

They rank 32nd in goals allowed per game, while allowing 33.2 shots per game over their last 10 outings.

They’ve also been brutal on the PK with just a 55.3% kill rate in the month of January. That could be a good opportunity for Nylander to get extended OZ time and fire the puck on goal to get to our Over.

Maple Leafs vs Canucks same-game parlay

I’ll continue to back Nylander tonight and take him to get on the scoresheet by adding Over 0.5 points to my SGP. The Canucks are the last-place team in the NHL, allowing the most scoring chances and goals against in the league.

Nylander had a three-point night earlier this month when these two teams squared off.

I’ll continue to pound the Leafs offensive props and grab Bobby McMann Over 0.5 points as well. He has points in three of his last four games and is playing on the top line with Auston Matthews and Max Domi. That line has been generating a lot of offense, despite the losing results each night.

Maple Leafs vs Canucks SGP

  • William Nylander Over 2.5 shots
  • William Nylander Over 0.5 points
  • Bobby McMann Over 0.5 points
