While the Oilers deserve to be favorites tonight, the -210 moneyline price has gone too far and is actually giving us some value on the road team. We break down Vancouver's chances in our Game 3 betting picks below.

The NHL playoffs rage on, and the Edmonton Oilers will host the Vancouver Canucks in Game 3 of this second-round series tonight. NHL odds have Edmonton as a sizable -210 favorite while the total sits at 6.5.

Find out which side I’m betting on in my NHL picks and Canucks vs. Oilers prediction for May 11.

My best bet
Canucks moneyline (+170 at SportsInteraction)

My analysis
I want to open this piece by saying I believe the Edmonton Oilers are the better team. It’s out there.

With that said, I think +170 is a misprice on the Vancouver Canucks, so that's where our money will go. The first two games of this series were incredibly competitive in Vancouver, with the Canucks winning the opener 5-4 and then falling in OT (4-3) in Game 2.

At this price, I'll gladly back the underdog to keep things competitive. It’s not like the Canucks can’t win this game; they've won five of the past six meetings.

Even if we don’t want to look backward, the metrics suggest Vancouver is the better team. At 5-on-5 this postseason, the Canucks rank higher than Edmonton in expected goals for per 60 minutes (xGF/60), expected goals against per 60 minutes (xGA/60), and expected goal differential per 60 minutes.

Now, if I’m reading those lopsided stats, I’m asking “What about special teams?”. While the Oilers are the better team in this department, Vancouver ranks fourth among the 16 playoff teams this postseason in penalty kill percentage.

Considering these variables, I believe it's worth taking a shot on the road team to take a 2-1 series lead at +170.

Canucks vs Oilers same-game parlay (SGP)

Canucks moneyline

Brock Boeser anytime goalscorer

If we're backing Vancouver to win, then we need some of its skaters to find the back of the net. Enter Brock Boeser.

While J.T. Miller has been the best all-around forward for the Canucks this postseason, Boeser has been the team’s best goal scorer as he's found the back of the net five times through eight games. This success could continue against the Oilers considering he's scored 11 goals over the past 17 meetings.

Canucks vs Oilers opening odds

  • Puck line: Vancouver +1.5 (-150) | Edmonton -1.5 (+125)
  • Moneyline: Vancouver +170 | Edmonton -210
  • Over/Under: Over 6.5 | Under 6.5

Canucks vs Oilers moneyline and Over/Under analysis

  • Edmonton opened as a sizable -210 favorite and remains at that price at the time of writing.

  • I think the market will move this line in Vancouver’s direction, given all the aforementioned variables.

  • The total opened at 6.5 and also remains at that price.

  • I think the public will lean toward the Over, as it typically does when the Oilers are involved.
