Lakers vs Jazz Predictions

This Lakers vs. Jazz prediction assumes what we've grown accustomed to seeing in this pairing will play out again, with Los Angeles coming out on top. History is what it is for a reason, and as is often the case, history is difficult to ignore, but easy to repeat.

Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. ET at the Delta Center, with Utah a 6.5-point underdog in front of its home fans.

Let's dive into my analysis and NBA picks for this Western Conference showdown on Sunday, Oct. 25.

 TOP PICK
Lakers vs Jazz prediction: Lakers moneyline

The LeBron James-less Los Angeles Lakers are quickly and efficiently forging a new identity.

It involves a methodical scoring approach (first in offense, 17th in pace) that doesn't rely too heavily on 3-pointers (29th in attempts), thanks in large part to having a man in the middle in Walker Kessler, a former Utah Jazz big, that Luka Doncic can play off of.

That should continue serving the team well on the road Sunday evening, with Los Angeles coming off a season sweep of the Jazz during the 2025-26 campaign.

The Jazz haven't shown they can do much beyond moving the rock (fifth in assists), but their 18 turnovers (20th) negate that.

I'll be trading this line up to 74%. Isolating road games, the Lakers have gone 5-2 straight up the last seven times they've competed in Salt Lake City.

There's more value in wagering the spread, but I worry that today's visitors are 1-7 ATS in that department against Utah since 2022.

Covers COVERS INTEL: Ball movement didn't serve the Jazz well this past season either. They finished with a losing record SU, despite registering more assists than an opponent (17-19), with five losses in their last six attempts.

Lakers vs Jazz combo

Feel free to call this the "Sharing is Caring" parlay, because dishing and diming will help you profit.

The Lakers and Jazz frequently pull out Overs anyway, having done so 12 of the last 16 times. Points mean assists are sure to follow, with a better return on investment here because legs like Doncic going Over 7.5 assists are still possible.

Keyonte George, meanwhile, is Utah's leading assist man with 7.5, continuing his year-over-year uptick in that category.

He's coming off 10 assists against the Pelicans, and if Doncic can finish with at least eight after getting exactly seven twice, then we'll be sitting pretty.

Lakers vs Jazz combo

  • Over 237.5 points
  • Luka Doncic Over 7.5 assists
  • Keyonte George Over 6.5 assists

Lakers vs Jazz player props

Lakers player prop: Walker Kessler Over 14.5 points

Kessler's scorching start isn't sustainable. He's converted 22 of his 26 shots in two outings, an otherworldly 84.6% efficiency.

Now, while you can't expect that to stretch over an 82-game slate, there's reason to believe it can at least carry through Sunday's festivities against a team Kessler spent the first four years of his young career suiting up for.

The 25-year-old big man hasn't scored fewer than 22 points or taken fewer than 12 shots. Also note that Utah's frontcourt defense allowed New Orleans' bigs to shoot a combined 23-of-36 on Friday.

Expect Doncic to feed his five man early and often on his return to his former turf. This line looks good up to 17 points.

Jazz player prop: Lauri Markkanen Over 2.5 threes

Kessler would love nothing more than to live in the paint and not be pulled out of his comfort zone.

Both the Warriors and Clippers deployed schemes against the Lakers that involved slotting bigs on the perimeter to clear room around the basket, so the Jazz should be no different here.

The obvious beneficiary of that strategy would be Lauri Markkanen, who is attempting an average of eight triples per contest, albeit at just 31.3% efficiency.

Nonetheless, shooters will always shoot, and Markkanen has shot at least 7.7 threes per game each of the last four seasons, even if his percentages have been trending down.
