49ers vs Giants Best bet: 49ers -2.5 (-115)
One of the easiest fades in the NFL is betting against teams that can’t stop the run.
The New York Giants have been gashed on the ground to the tune of NFL highs in both yards and EPA per rushing attempt, and I’m confident that if the G-Men sell out to improve their run defense, the San Francisco 49ers can move the ball through the air.
Either way, I’m anticipating the 49ers controlling the time of possession and covering the number Sunday afternoon at MetLife Stadium.
And, while the Niners definitely have shortcomings, their offense ranks 10th in DVOA and 11th in PFF grade while averaging the eighth-longest drives. I also value San Fran heading east with the third-highest third-down conversion rate.
Again, it’s a bad recipe for a New York defense that can’t stop the run.
49ers vs Giants same-game parlay
Niners tight end George Kittle found the end zone last week, and the Giants have surrendered three touchdowns to the position across their past three games. I expect Kittle’s role in the passing attack to amp up now that he’s back in action and multiple games removed from his hamstring injury.
The final leg of this same-game parlay turns to New York wide receiver Wan'Dale Robinson who’s defacto No. 1 option in the passing game. He hauled in 12 of 19 targets for 179 yards in Weeks 6 and 7 before being held to 48 yards on three receptions and four targets last time out.
Look for Robinson to clear this benchmark with the Giants trailing and going to the aerial attack late in Sunday’s game.
