Oregon may be waving the white flag after last week’s loss to Illinois. Can Dan Lanning get the Ducks back on track against a talented Northwestern team, or are they headed for another disappointing Saturday?
My Northwestern vs. Oregon prediction backs the Wildcats +3.5 and the Over 46.5 in this Week 9 matchup.
Here are my latest college football picks ahead of the 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff on Peacock this October 31.
TOP PICK
Who will win Northwestern vs Oregon: Northwestern +3.5
With Oregon head coach Dan Lanning potentially sitting on one of the hottest seats in the country following the Ducks’ 21-10 loss to Illinois last week, the pressure is mounting in Eugene.
Oregon sits at 4-3, a disappointing record for a team viewed as a national title contender after significant financial investment in the roster. Many will likely lean toward the Ducks in what feels like a must-win game to keep Lanning’s seat from getting any hotter.
No. 20 Northwestern, however, will be looking to make matters worse for Lanning this Saturday. Getting 3.5 points feels like plenty of cushion for a Wildcats team that is humming right now. If Northwestern can get its elite rushing attack going against this Ducks defense, it has a legitimate shot to pull off the road upset.
Play the moneyline if you’re feeling froggy, but try to grab +3.5 at up to 52% if you can. The Ducks are on quit watch.

Northwestern vs Oregon Over/Under pick: Over 46.5
The Wildcats have done an excellent job scoring the ball this season, averaging nearly 35 points per game. They likely won't top 30 points on the road in this matchup, but they should contribute enough to help push this game Over 46.5 points.
Oregon will want to speed things up as much as possible. The Ducks rank 24th nationally in seconds per play this season and 29th in their first three drives. Overall, they're the second-fastest team in the Big Ten. Northwestern sits near the bottom of the conference in pace but tends to pick things up when leading in the second half, ranking 30th nationally in that situation.
Even with the Ducks struggling to find a consistent replacement for Dante Moore, Dan Lanning's team should do enough to keep this game competitive and help push the total Over.
Playable up to 47, but I wouldn't want to go any higher.
Northwestern vs Oregon combo
Northwestern should be fully motivated to secure a big road win after dropping a close one to Indiana a few weeks ago. Meanwhile, Oregon sits at 4-3 and could be ready to throw in the towel before November. That’s why I’m combining Northwestern +3.5, first-half +2.5, and the Over 46.5 for a fun 4.88x sweat!
