The San Jose Sharks (63%) will be looking to get back on track after losing consecutive games by multiple goals.
They are in a great spot to do just that against the Vancouver Canucks, who have dropped 10 of their last 11 games.
My Canucks vs. Sharks prediction sees rookie Ivar Stenberg finding the scoresheet in a winning effort.
Read on for my full breakdown and NHL picks for Thursday, Oct. 29.
Canucks vs Sharks prediction: Sharks -1.5
I’m playing the San Jose Sharks -1.5 to 45%.
The Vancouver Canucks have very little dynamic talent and it shows in the numbers. No team has generated expected goals at a lesser rate.
That makes it necessary to be opportunistic if they want to hang around in games, and that’s easier said than done against Alex Nedeljkovic.
He is quietly off to a strong start, averaging +0.70 Goals Saved Above Expected per game. That ties him for eighth among 47 goaltenders who’ve played at least five games.
The Sharks rank 15th in shots and eighth in power play percentage, which should allow them to gain separation against the NHL’s worst defensive team.

Canucks vs Sharks combo
Ivar Stenberg has five points over his last six games and logged more than 20 minutes for the first time in his career last time out.
He is gaining the trust of the coaching staff, and in the perfect situation to produce riding shotgun with Macklin Celebrini on the No. 1 line and top power play unit – in an extremely good matchup, to boot.
Celebrini is far and away the best volume shooter on the Sharks, and Stenberg is a pass-first winger who will consistently hit Celebrini in good spots.
Canucks vs Sharks combo
- Sharks -1.5
- Ivar Stenberg Over 0.5 points
- Macklin Celebrini anytime goal
TOP PICK
Canucks vs Sharks player prop: Ivar Stenberg Over 0.5 points
I’m targeting Stenberg for a point up to 61%.
Celebrini is the only Sharks player with more points than the rookie, and Stenberg is now playing with him.
He is skating on the top line and the No. 1 power play, giving Stenberg exposure to one of the league’s premiere weapons every time over the boards.
The matchup only makes Stenberg more enticing. Vancouver sits dead last in goals against, shots against, and expected goals against.
Their netminding is also poor. Kevin Lankinen owns an .812 save percentage, while Leevi Merilainen has conceded 14 goals over his past three starts.
No matter who is between the pipes, Stenberg & Co. should be productive.
Canucks vs Sharks goal scorer: Macklin Celebrini
This is playable to 52%.
The Canucks are a trainwreck defensively, sitting last in expected goal suppression at 5-on-5 and on the penalty kill.
Celebrini is pacing the Sharks in expected goals, shots on target, and shot attempts, making him the most likely candidate to capitalize.
Celebrini is also a Vancouver boy who has consistently shredded his hometown team, recording multiple points in five of seven head-to-head meetings and four straight.
The Sharks are understandably heavy favorites, and that bodes well for Celebrini. He scored in 67% of San Jose’s wins last year, averaging 0.9 goals per game.
