The Chicago Cubs are home favorites over the Atlanta Braves ahead of the 7:40 p.m. ET first pitch at Wrigley Field on Monday, Sept. 14, as I make my Braves vs. Cubs predictions.

My top MLB picks are calling for Chicago to take a high-scoring series opener at the Friendly Confines tonight.

Who will win Braves vs Cubs today: Cubs moneyline

For help understanding probabilities, see our odds calculator.

Atlanta Braves righty Reynaldo Lopez sports a 5.00 xERA and 4.35 xFIP as a starter, and he just surrendered six runs across 4 2/3 innings during his return from a knee injury and first start since July 26.

As a result, I recommend the Chicago Cubs' moneyline to 58.3%.

The Cubs welcome the veteran to Wrigley with a second-ranked wOBA and xwOBA over the past 30 days, and a lineup sitting first in wOBA against righties in the second half, after all.

Chicago lefty David Peterson has also allowed two runs or fewer in eight of his past 10 starts, and he’s held opposing hitters to a below-average .314 wOBA across his last six appearances at Wrigley.

It all adds up to the Chicago offense pulling away tonight.

Covers COVERS INTEL: The Atlanta Braves rank 26th in on-base percentage and 18th in wOBA against left-handed pitchers since the All-Star break.

Braves vs Cubs Over/Under pick: Over 9.5

The wind is forecast to be blowing out to left-center field at a 14-16 mph clip at Wrigley Field tonight. While Peterson has been able to largely mitigate the damage, he’s still allowed a healthy 38.8% hard-hit rate and 37.9% squared-up contact rate since joining Chicago in June.

Plus, both teams are eyeing statistical correction at the dish. There are too many proven -- and dangerous -- hitters in both lineups for Chicago and Atlanta to rank 26th and 25th in BABIP across the past week.

So, with both teams set up for offensive success, I’m anticipating a lot of crooked numbers on the scoreboard given the favorable hitting conditions tonight.

Braves vs Cubs home run prediction: Ronald Acuna Jr.

Atlanta superstar Ronald Acuna Jr. has been teeing off for four homers and a 1.078 OPS through 12 September games, and he's logged a home run and a career .945 OPS against Peterson. Acuna has also tagged lefties for a .190 ISO this season, so I like him to leave the yard with the wind blowing out to left-center field tonight.

Braves vs Cubs weather

The forecast calls for favorable hitting conditions at Wrigley Field tonight. A brisk 14-16 mph wind blowing out to left-center field alongside 71-degree temperatures sets the table for these offenses to pile up runs.
