The Blues rank last in shot attempts allowed to Rasmus Andersson's primary shooting zone, making the Golden Knights defender a primary target with our NHL picks.

The St. Louis Blues (47% underdogs) allow shot attempts from the right point at the league's highest rate.

That puts Vegas Golden Knights defenseman Rasmus Andersson firmly on the radar with my top Golden Knights vs. Blues prediction for tonight's game.

Let's get into my analysis and NHL picks for Thursday, Oct. 22.

Golden Knights vs Blues prediction: Under 6.5

Play the Under to 59%.

Joel Hofer quietly finished 10th in the NHL with +15.2 goals saved above expectation a year ago, and he's picked up right where he left off.

Hofer owns a .916 save percentage and has already shaved 2.1 goals off the opposing team's expected output.

Combining the St. Louis Blues' 22nd-ranked pace with quality goaltending provides a good framework for a low-scoring game.

Meanwhile, the Vegas Golden Knights sit top 10 in limiting expected goals at both 5-on-5 and on the penalty kill.

Golden Knights vs Blues combo

I'm combining the Under with defensemen Rasmus Andersson and Philip Broberg to record a couple of shots each.

Andersson has generated multiple shots in six of his last seven games and now draws a Blues team allowing the 10th-most shots to defensemen.

Broberg was recently promoted to the top power play unit and that has really helped his volume. He has combined for 10 shots on 15 attempts over two games since being moved to the No. 1 unit.

With both teams good at defending the slot, these minute-munchers should have plenty of chances to fire from the perimeter.

Golden Knights vs Blues combo

  • Rasmus Andersson Over 1.5 shots
  • Philip Broberg Over 1.5 shots
  • Under 6.5

 TOP PICK
Golden Knights vs Blues player prop: Rasmus Andersson Over 1.5 shots

I'm playing Andersson for 2+ shots up to 57%.

He's attempted 4+ shots in four of his last seven after doing so just once over his first four games.

The uptick in volume should continue against the Blues. They've conceded the 10th-most shots to defensemen on a per-game basis and, more specifically, are allowing 30% more attempts than league average from the right point — Andersson's top shooting zone.

Andersson combined for nine shots on 18 attempts over two head-to-head meetings with the Blues last season.

Covers COVERS INTEL: The Blues allow the most attempts in the league from the right point, playing into the hands of Andersson.

Golden Knights vs Blues goal scorer: Tomas Hertl

Tomas Hertl is my top target to light the lamp tonight.

The Blues are a strong defensive team, but penalties have been somewhat of an Achilles heel, ranking 26th in shorthanded time per game.

Hertl will be the primary beneficiary if their penalty troubles continue. He leads the Golden Knights — by far — with 3.1 xG on the power play. He also tops the team in shot attempts and shots on goal.

Taking a wider look, only Sam Reinhart has generated more xG on the man advantage this season. Getting Hertl the puck in high-danger areas is Vegas' top priority, and they should have plenty of chances to do so vs. the penalty-prone Blues.
