Oklahoma's battered offensive line opens the door for a Mississippi State cover, especially if Kamario Taylor returns under center.

Two SEC teams looking for a much-needed win collide in Week 8 as Oklahoma visits Mississippi State in Starkville.

My Oklahoma vs. Mississippi State prediction and college football picks focus on Kamario Taylor's injury status and Oklahoma's banged-up offensive line.

Kickoff is Saturday, Oct. 24, at 3:30 p.m. ET on SEC Network.

 TOP PICK
Who will win Oklahoma vs Mississippi State: Mississippi State +4.5

I'd play Mississippi State down to +3.5.

There's some optimism that quarterback Kamario Taylor returns to the field after pushing to play in Week 7. If he goes, even with a hobbled foot, he provides Mississippi State with a massive edge at quarterback.

Oklahoma checks in at 133rd in EPA per play offensively and may be down four offensive line starters. Even if Taylor is ultimately unable to go, State may have more offensive firepower than the Sooners' impotent unit.

Brent Venables' team is 0-3 ATS as a favorite since the opener, so I'm selling the Sooners laying points.

Covers COVERS INTEL: Oklahoma has struggled along the offensive line (133rd in line yards, 127th in stuff rate) and has four starters listed on the availability report.

Oklahoma vs Mississippi State Over/Under pick: Over 46.5

This pick hinges on Taylor being able to suit up in Week 8.

State's offense has been dynamic when he's healthy, averaging 6.4 yards per play or better in all four of the games in which he played at 100%. Jeff Lebby operates his offense at the sixth-fastest tempo (22.4 seconds per snap), creating more scoring opportunities.

Oklahoma's offense may be miserable, but keep in mind that the Sooners have faced several elite defenses (Michigan, Georgia, Texas) along the way. This is a get-right spot against a Mississippi State defense ranked 122nd in success rate allowed.

Oklahoma vs Mississippi State combo

A Mississippi State cover is closely correlated with an Over play. Taylor is one of the most important players in the nation to the spread, averaging 9.4 yards per attempt with 17 touchdowns to four interceptions, and this handicap is essentially predicated on speculation that he will suit up.
