Artemi Panarin's increase in shot volume nearly netted him a 50-goal season last year, and the Rangers' winger continues to fire away.

The Philadelphia Flyers hit the road for a quick two-game road trip starting at Madison Square Garden against the New York Rangers on Thursday night.

My Flyers vs. Rangers predictions target Artemi Panarin to get the puck on net against a leaky Philly squad.

Flyers vs Rangers prediction

My best bet
Artemi Panarin Over 2.5 shots (-150 at DraftKings)

My analysis
Artemi Panarin made it a point to shoot the puck more last season, and it paid off with 49 of his 303 shots finding the back of the net. That was a 20-goal increase on 99 more shots than the previous season.

The New York Rangers winger appears to be in that mindset again.

Panarin has 33 shots in his last 10 games, with at least three in eight of those contests. He’s been especially aggressive over the last five games with 19 in that span.

Not only has Panarin been getting the puck on net, but he’s been firing off plenty of attempts.

He’s had at least seven shot attempts in five straight games and seven of his last eight. The winger is fresh off a game in which he had five SOG on eight total attempts in a 5-0 win against the Senators. Panarin has now gone Over 2.5 SOG in 27 of 45 games, including 14 of 22 at home.

The top-line winger is also the triggerman on the Rangers’ top power-play unit, and I expect him to shoot any chance he gets tonight.

Flyers vs Rangers same-game parlay (SGP)

Artemi Panarin 3+ shots

Artemi Panarin 1+ point

Under 5.5

Not only has Panarin been shooting the puck a lot but he’s been getting on the scoresheet with some regularity as well. He has points in back-to-back games, three of his last four, and seven of his last nine contests.

He was held off the scoresheet in Philadelphia back in November but had four points in two home games against the Flyers last season.

The Flyers are playing strong defensive hockey, and Sam Ersson has been stellar recently in the net. This should be another low-scoring game between two Metropolitan rivals.
