The Flames' Mikael Backlund has been unafraid to shoot the puck of late, and our NHL betting picks will gladly back him to get to 3+ SOG tonight vs. the Red Wings.

The Calgary Flames have been one of the more pleasantly surprising teams through the first quarter of the season with a 12-7-3 record thus far. They just saw a four-game winning streak come to an end but have a great opportunity to get back on track in Detroit against the Red Wings.

My top Flames vs. Red Wings predictions and NHL picks are expecting center Mikael Backlund to keep firing away for Calgary on Wednesday, November 27.

My Flames analysis

Calgary Flames forward Mikael Backlund has been firing the puck at will recently, and that shouldn’t change here against the Detroit Red Wings.

Backlund is now up to nearly three shots per game with 60 SOG in 22 games played thus far. He’s had at least three shots in five straight games (22 total), and in nine of his last 10 contests (36 total) as well.

He hasn’t been skating by, either. He’s had at least four SOG in four of his last five games. His total shot attempts are up as well with at least seven attempts in three of his last five games and six of 10.

The Red Wings allow the fifth-most shots in the league at 31.7 per game and Backlund had seven shots in two games against Detroit last season. Look for him to keep firing away tonight in the Motor City.

Flames vs Red Wings same-game parlay (SGP)

Mikael Backlund Over 2.5 shots on goal

Flames moneyline

Under 5.5

The Flames and Red Wings have been two of the more profitable Under teams so far this season largely due to their lackluster offenses. It also helps that both Dustin Wolf and Dan Vladar have been strong between the pipes for Calgary, and the same can be said for Cam Talbot in Detroit.

Calgary only has the 21st-best expected goal share at 5-on-5 this season but that’s still better than Detroit, which ranks 27th.
