The Montreal Canadiens have just two wins in their last eight games, but that hasn’t stopped Cole Caufield from filling the net as the Habs winger enters tonight’s contest against the Pittsburgh Penguins on a four-game goal streak.

Keep reading to find out why my Canadiens vs. Penguins predictions and NHL picks believe Caufield will push his streak to five on Saturday, November 2.

My Canadiens analysis

The Montreal Canadiens dropped their second straight game on Thursday in a 6-3 loss to the Capitals, but the Habs top line of Cole Caufield, Nick Suzuki, and Emil Heineman had a solid night, combining for two goals — including one off the stick of Caufield.

The Habs sniper extended his goal streak to four games in the process and is now up to 10 goals on the season, tied with Nico Hischier for the league lead. Caufield hasn’t been shooting the puck at an astronomical rate, averaging just under three shots per game, but he’s converted on 31.3% of those shots. That number is most likely unsustainable long term, but Caufield can certainly keep it up for a while if the power play keeps firing.

Caufield has scored four of his 10 goals on the man advantage, including two in the last three games. Montreal’s power play sits at 22% on the season (11th) but has been clicking at 26.3% over the last two weeks. Meanwhile, the Pittsburgh Penguins have been one of the league’s weakest defensive teams, allowing four goals per game (30th) with a team save percentage of .890 (t-19th).

Whether it’s Alex Nedeljkovic (.890 SV%) or Joel Blomqvist (.909 SV%) getting the start for the Pens, I like Caufield’s chances of picking up another goal.

Canadiens vs Penguins same-game parlay (SGP)

Cole Caufield anytime goal

Nick Suzuki Over 0.5 points

Over 6.5

Caufield hasn’t been the only bright spot for the Habs, as Suzuki has also been piling up the points. The Habs captain has found the scoresheet in eight of his last nine games, with 13 total points over that span. The dynamic duo has been combining on a goal virtually every night and I suspect we’ll see that trend continue against Pittsburgh.

The Canadiens and Penguins rank 32nd and 30th, respectively, in goals against per game, so I think we’ll see plenty of goals in this one. The Over is 6-0 in Montreal’s last six games and 4-2 in Pittsburgh’s last six.
