Two quarterbacks will get the chance to show off against their previous teams on Sunday as the New York Jets host the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 1.

Pittsburgh should find it easier to integrate its new quarterback early in the season, which is why I’m taking it to cover in my Steelers vs. Jets predictions.

Let’s take a deeper look at this season opener in my NFL picks for Sunday, September 7.

Steelers vs Jets prediction

Steelers vs Jets Best bet: Steelers -2.5 (-118)

In a fascinating Week 1 matchup, the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Jets are trading their starting quarterbacks from the start of last season.

Aaron Rodgers will suit up for at least one more season, this time with Pittsburgh, while Justin Fields will try to build on the improvement he showed while filling in early last year, now that he’s the starter for the Jets.

Of the two, Rodgers obviously has the better pedigree, and he can at least still throw the ball. Even in a down year with the Jets, Rodgers threw for 3,897 yards and 28 touchdowns against 11 interceptions, and proved he could remain healthy even when taking a fair amount of punishment.

Meanwhile, Fields does have dual-threat ability, and all signs are that the Jets' offensive line will see improvement this year. But this game is a tough start for a young line, as they’ll have to deal with a strong Steelers pass rush led by T.J. Watt.

I expect Rodgers to integrate faster than Fields, meaning there’s far more upside for the Pittsburgh offense in Week 1. I’m taking the Steelers to cover.

Steelers vs Jets same-game parlay

Along with taking the Steelers to cover, I’ll also take the Over, as I think this total is a bit too low given that both teams have at least some weapons that should cause the opposing defenses trouble.

I’m also taking DK Metcalf to pick up a touchdown as Rodgers will look to establish a connection with him in Week 1.

Steelers vs Jets 3-Leg SGP

  • Pittsburgh Steelers -2.5
  • Over 37.5
  • DK Metcalf anytime touchdown

Our big-ticket SGP: Revenge in Gotham

Rodgers will be out to prove he’s still got something in the tank, and should have enough weapons to get Over a low yardage total.

Breece Hall should have little trouble getting Over 44.5 yards on the ground, something he did in 12 of his 16 games last season.

Steelers vs Jets 5-Leg SGP

  • Pittsburgh Steelers -2.5
  • Over 37.5
  • DK Metcalf anytime touchdown
  • Aaron Rodgers Over 202.5 passing yards
  • Breece Hall Over 44.5 rushing yards

Steelers vs Jets odds

  • Spread: Steelers -3 (-110) | Jets +3 (-110)
  • Moneyline: Steelers -155 | Jets +130
  • Over/Under: Over 39.5 (-110) | Under 39.5 (-110)

Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
