The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will try to move to 3-0 on the year as they host the winless New York Jets at Raymond James Stadium in Week 3.

New York will be without its starting quarterback and will struggle to generate offense, which is why I’m taking Tampa Bay to cover in my Jets vs. Buccaneers predictions.

Read on to see my full slate of bets for this matchup as I break down some NFL picks for Sunday, September 21.

Jets vs Buccaneers prediction

Jets vs Buccaneers Best bet: Buccaneers -6.5 (-110)

The New York Jets have confirmed that Tyrod Taylor will get the start at quarterback on Sunday, as Justin Fields is out with a concussion. That’s the latest bit of bad news for New York coming out of last week’s 30-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills, a game where little went right for the Jets.

As poor as Fields played against Buffalo, he had shown the power of his dynamic play style in Week 1, when he threw for 21 yards and ran for 48 more while generating three scores against the Pittsburgh Steelers. While Taylor was once a solid running quarterback, those days are long behind him, and at age 36, it’s been a long time since he’s proven himself as a passer in extended action.

That spells trouble for New York against a Tampa Bay Buccaneers team that has given up plenty of yards but only 19.5 ppg. The bend-but-don’t-break style has led to two wins, and New York is unlikely to put up the sustained offensive success needed to change that.

With Baker Mayfield playing confidently behind center for the Bucs, I can’t see the Jets keeping this one within a touchdown. I’m taking Tampa Bay to cover.

Jets vs Buccaneers same-game parlay

I’m not in love with either offense, so I’m going take the Under here, as the Bucs have hit the Under in all three of their games this season.

I’m also taking Tampa Bay running back Bucky Irving to score a touchdown, as he’s a popular target in the passing game as well as the team’s leading rusher.

His betting strategy focuses more on finding line value based on deviations from the market rather than traditional handicapping, primarily shopping between DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics in his home state of Connecticut, though he’s not afraid to do deep game analysis to find profitable bets at any book.

Outside of gambling, Ed is an avid curler who competes in mixed doubles on the World Curling Tour and runs a popular curling YouTube channel, Chess on Ice. That experience has come in handy during the Olympics, when he has proven to be a successful curling bettor as well.

Ed's advice to new bettors is to always open multiple sportsbook accounts and check the odds at each before placing any bet. Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
