Lane Kiffin and the Mississippi Rebels responded to their first loss of the season in a big way by heading into Norman and earning a massive win over Oklahoma. Now, the schedule opens up down the stretch as the Rebels attempt to make the College Football Playoff for the first time.

But that means no slip-ups, starting this weekend when the South Carolina Gamecocks come to town.

My South Carolina vs. Mississippi predictions highlight a player prop that has faith in the Rebels' aerial attack, plus more college football picks for this SEC matchup this Saturday, November 1.

South Carolina vs Mississippi prediction

South Carolina vs Mississippi best bet: Trinidad Chambliss Over 267.5 passing yards (-114)

Trinidad Chambliss didn’t begin the season as the Mississippi Rebels' starting quarterback, but there’s no question that it’s his job now.

Chambliss took over the job after Austin Simmons suffered an injury in Week 2, and hasn’t looked back since. The freshman is a dual-threat QB who has thrown for 1,864 yards with nine touchdowns and one interception, while adding another 376 yards and five scores on the ground.

He’s thrown for 300+ yards in four of his six games this season, including putting up 315 yards in a huge bounce-back win for the Rebels, where they went into Norman and took care of business of the Sooners, winning 34-26.

It showcased the resiliency of this Rebels team following a gut-wrenching loss to Georgia, where they gave up a late lead.

Now, the schedule opens up for Mississippi, and a spot in the College Football Playoff is a real possibility. But that means not letting up, starting this week against the South Carolina Gamecocks.

South Carolina hasn’t been able to replicate the magic of their 11-win season last year. But the Gamecocks were oh-so-close to upsetting Alabama last week. However, after that disappointment, the Gamecocks should come back down to Earth and are set up for a letdown.

That doesn’t bode well against this explosive Rebels offense. Nor does the fact that South Carolina ranks 117th in the country in defensive success rate on dropbacks.

I’m betting Chambliss keeps chucking it against this Gamecocks defense and goes Over this number for the fifth time in seven games.

South Carolina vs Mississippi same-game parlay

Like I said, this feels like wrong place, wrong time for South Carolina.

The Gamecocks gave it their all against Alabama last week, but gave away the game at the end. The offense has also struggled for South Carolina, ranking 87th in the country in EPA per play and 127th in success rate.

Meanwhile, Mississippi has been sneaky good on defense, ranking 22nd in EPA per play. Mississippi has the goods to cover this number at home.

If the Rebels have a weakness on that side of the ball, it’s their run defense. Mississippi ranks 76th in EPA per rush and 115th in success rate against the rush. That combined with an aggressive defensive line means South Carolina could try to run a little more with QB LaNorris Sellers.

When healthy, Sellers is an electric runner, and hw has gone for 67 or more yards twice in the last four games. I love Sellers to eclipse his rushing yards prop this week in a situation where he could be running for his life.

South Carolina can give up explosive plays in the passing game, and Dae'Quan Wright is Mississippi's best deep threat. Let's take him to score his third TD of the year.
