After losing the CFP National Championship last year, Miami opens its season by heading across the country to take on Stanford at Stanford Stadium in Stanford, Calif., on Friday at 9 p.m. ET (ESPN).
The new-look Hurricanes are a 24.5-point favorite with Darian Mensah behind center, and my Miami vs. Stanford predictions and college football picks expect plenty of points from the Heisman Trophy contender.

Miami vs Stanford prediction: Over 47.5
With new QB Darian Mensah among the Heisman Trophy odds favorites, along with the return of Malachi Toney and Mark Fletcher Jr., Miami's offense might be more potent this year than it was last season.
Mensah ranked second in the country in TD passes last season at Duke (34), and Top-20 nationally in QBR (76.6) and big-time throws (28). He should pick apart a Stanford defense that was 107th in EPA per pass last season.
For the Over to be in play, Stanford should only need to score 10+ points. And with how steady Davis Warren was at QB in Week 0, the Cardinal will be able to find enough success against a Miami defense replacing several key starters.
I like the Over on any number below 49.5.

Miami vs Stanford same-game parlay (SGP)
Miami shouldn't have much trouble putting points on the board, even in Mensah's first game. Toney is one of the best playmakers in the sport and led the country in YAC last season (841), while Fletcher ranked top 10 in rushing yards after contact (842).
Those two can power the Canes to 35+ points with ease. However, don't expect Stanford to roll over, especially against a Miami team that's just 74th in returning defensive production (51%).
Warren had an 87.1% adjusted completion rate in Week 0, and running back Micah Ford averaged 3.64 rushing yards after contact. Stanford was also dealing with key offensive injuries last week against Hawaii and is expected to see some of those players return this week.
The Cardinal can score enough to keep this within 24 points.
