Don't be afraid to pay a little juice. With how crazy college football can get, this one feels like a weird spot, but I do endorse South Alabama -2.5, or -3 if you are not in the juice-paying business.
I'll just flat-out say it: Marshall sucks. Its resume is putrid. The Thundering Herd may be 3-3, but they're just 1-5 against the spread, and some of these performances have been pathetic.
Marshall nearly lost to Gardner-Webb as a 24.5-point favorite and almost lost to Middle Tennessee State as an 11.5-point favorite. The Thundering Herd are just a few plays away from looking exactly like their ATS record.
Marshall is coming off a loss to Coastal Carolina as a 4.5-point home favorite. The Thundering Herd racked up more than 505 total yards, outgaining the Chanticleers by nearly 200. How on earth did they fumble that game away? Turnovers. Marshall coughed up the ball three times on fumbles while throwing three interceptions.
The Jaguars should take care of business, as they've played every opponent tough. Their worst loss came against Kentucky, when they fell 45-21 as 20.5-point underdogs.
South Alabama ranks seventh in points per game but 130th in points allowed, which is a concern. However, Marshall ranks 116th in points allowed and 120th in yards allowed per game.

COVERS INTEL: According to TeamRankings, South Alabama runs the ball at the eighth-highest rate in the country, averaging 43.4 attempts and 216.2 rushing yards per game (11th). Marshall's run defense has been putrid, ranking 120th in opponent rushing yards per game and 129th in yards per rush.

This matchup has utter chaos written all over it. Both defenses are allowing more than 33 points per game, while one offense is averaging just 22 points per game and the other is nearly hitting 40.
Although Marshall has struggled to score, it moves the ball well, and South Alabama's defense has been a revolving door. The Thundering Herd should finally find paydirt.
Despite ranking 111th in points per game, the Thundering Herd sit 64th in total offense, averaging 406.5 yards per game. If Marshall can bounce back and clean up its turnover problems, this game could soar over the total. Neither side has shown much ability to stop anyone.
I would not take this higher than it is.
