Southeast Division rivals clash as the Hawks visit the Sunshine State to take on the Magic. I'm rolling with Atlanta on the road, with the Hawks coming off a clean sweep of the season series in 2025-26.

My Hawks vs. Magic prediction holds full confidence in the visitors, with Atlanta having Orlando's number for quite some time, despite entering this matchup as an underdog.

Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. ET at the Kia Center. Let's dive into my analysis and NBA picks for this clash on Wednesday, Oct. 21.

 TOP PICK
Hawks vs Magic prediction: Hawks +3.5

The Atlanta Hawks went a perfect 4-0 straight up versus the Orlando Magic last season, covering the spread on all four occasions, including twice as an underdog. The last three victories were by an average margin of 18.7 points, too.

The hope is that some of the momentum built coming out of the 2026 All-Star break will carry over to this season, as Atlanta went a stellar 20-6 over its last 26 contests. Its defense ranked second in the Association during that stretch (108.6 points allowed per 100 possessions), and the team has since added former Oklahoma City Thunder defensive standouts Luguentz Dort and Aaron Wiggins into the fold.

Orlando was a respectable 27-13 SU when favored by 3.5 points or more last season, but that mark plummeted to just 16-24 on the spread. Its 13-17 record ATS as a home favorite was also fifth from the bottom overall, and the second-worst number for teams with at least 14 games played under that criteria.

There's a clear-cut size advantage for the Magic, especially at the four and five spots, but that doesn't necessarily equate to an offensive edge. This is a team that's finished no better than 19th in points per 100 possessions at home each of the last three campaigns.

So if the Hawks catch fire early, it's going to be difficult to keep pace on the scoreboard.

Covers COVERS INTEL: The Magic posted the fifth-highest EFG% across four preseason outings at 56.5%, but that number was just 48.8% in their four losses to the Hawks in 2025-26, which was the second-worst mark of Atlanta's 29 opponents.

Hawks vs Magic combo

Picking the Hawks on the moneyline follows similar logic to predicting they'll cover the spread. They've lost just six of their last 24 meetings with Orlando dating back to March 3, 2021, reinforcing that these have been relatively one-sided affairs.

In the totals market, these two adversaries have registered Unders in five of the last six times they've taken the hardwood together. Of those Unders, all five would have failed to topple Wednesday's 235.5 combined points.

Franz Wagner is expected to suit up after dealing with a shoulder injury. Still, a points prop of 21.5 feels a smidge too high for someone who still may not be at full health. He's only averaging 19.4 points over 16 career games against Atlanta, with just seven of those box scores resulting in lines of at least 22 points.

Hawks vs Magic combo

  • Hawks moneyline (43%)
  • Under 235.5 points (49%)
  • Franz Wagner Under 21.5 points (54%)

Hawks vs Magic player props

Hawks player prop: Nickeil Alexander-Walker Over 18.5 points

Only eight players in the league competed against the Magic three-plus times last season and averaged more than 28 points per contest in those outings, with Nickeil Alexander-Walker being one of them.

His efficiency was off the charts, converting 56.1% from the field, 47.4% from behind the arc, and 87% at the charity stripe.

Wednesday's prop is currently set at 18.5 points, which Alexander-Walker exceeded four out of four times, punctuated by a career-best 41-point outburst in a 12-point win on March 16.

Magic player prop: Paolo Banchero Over 8.5 rebounds

Paolo Banchero is coming off a career-high 8.4 rebounds in 72 appearances for Orlando last season, beating his previous best of 7.5 boards the year prior.

The All-Star forward hit the double-digit mark two of the last three times he saw the Hawks, which is a feat he's pulled off in four of the last six meetings overall since Feb. 20, 2025.

Atlanta is undersized and perhaps even undermanned in the middle, having just ranked 21st in opponents' rebounds at 45.2. Two of the team's five-strongest rebounders from that year, Jonathan Kuminga and Kristaps Porzingis, are no longer around, creating even more breathing room for Banchero to feast on the glass to open the season.
