Two of the nation’s service academies renew their annual rivalry on Saturday as the Army Black Knights face the Air Force Falcons in Colorado Springs.
While these run-heavy teams aren’t typically associated with high-scoring games, my Army vs. Air Force predictions make a strong case for backing the Over.

Army vs Air Force prediction
Army vs Air Force best bet: Over 49.5 (-110 at FanDuel)
A game between the two teams that run the ball more than anyone else in the country might not seem like a good choice for an Over pick. But based on what we’ve seen out of these service academies, it’s hard to see any other outcome.
While both teams are somewhat one dimensional, that description fits the Air Force Falcons especially well.
While Air Force has been extremely efficient on the rare occasions when they throw the ball, it has been outstanding on the ground, running the ball 52.6 times per game for 5.4 yards per carry. As a result, the Falcons are putting up 36.3 ppg.
The problem is that they just can’t stop anybody. Air Force is allowing a massive 7.8 yards per play, including 5.5 yards per play on the ground, which plays right into Army’s hands.
The Army Black Knights run the ball a nation-high 63.6 times per game, averaging 4.3 yards per carry.
Army plays more defense than Air Force, but even the Black Knights are playing to an average total of 47.9 ppg, and the Falcons will push that number higher. Even with the ball on the ground on almost every down, the Over is the play in this matchup.

While high-scoring football isn’t really Army’s forte, the Black Knights have been playing the better football as of late, and I expect them to come out on top in a close game.
But with plenty of points on tap, I’m predicting both teams find offensive success, so I’m throwing in a bet on Air Force to hit its team Over to complete my SGP.

Army -1.5 (-104 at FanDuel): I’m not sure it’s worth the slightly better payout to give up 1.5 points in what should be a close game, but Army is still the pick on the spread as well.

Over 50.5 (-110 at FanDuel): Air Force has been playing terrible defense while moving the ball efficiently on offense, and Army doesn’t slow the game enough to stay Under this total.
