Saturday's Oregon vs. Illinois prediction takes us to Gies Memorial Stadium, where the Ducks visit for the first time since 1993. Oregon is favored by 9.5 points, with the total sitting at 50.5 for the 3 p.m. ET kickoff.
Both teams are dealing with significant quarterback injuries, making this an interesting matchup to handicap. My picks focus on Oregon's depth and defensive advantage, a lower-scoring game, and Illinois' ability to start fast.

Who will win Oregon vs Illinois: Oregon -9.5
I lean toward the Oregon Ducks -9.5 and would play them up to -10.5. Oregon has the talent and depth to overcome its offensive injuries, but I can't say the same about the Illinois Fighting Illini.
Oregon's defense has stepped up significantly since losing starting quarterback Dante Moore to a concussion against USC. The Ducks have allowed just 29 points over their last two games.
Meanwhile, Illinois ranks 15th out of 18 Big Ten teams in points allowed per game. The Fighting Illini surrendered 31 points in regulation last week against a Michigan State team that ranks last in the conference in scoring.

TOP PICK
Oregon vs Illinois Over/Under pick: Under 50.5
At 50.5, I'd play the Under down to 49.5 for a straightforward reason: neither team will have its starting quarterback, Oregon is also missing its leading receiver, and the Ducks have the best defensive unit on the field.
Illinois true freshman backup quarterback Michael Clayton II was outstanding in relief against Michigan State two weeks ago, but facing Oregon with a full week to prepare is a much tougher assignment.
Meanwhile, Oregon's offense has been abysmal since losing Moore. The Ducks have scored just 32 combined points over their last two games and made midgame quarterback changes in both contests.
With both offenses compromised at quarterback, I expect a heavier emphasis on the running game, fewer explosive plays, and a game script that favors the Under.
Oregon vs Illinois combo
Illinois can land the first punch, and Oregon can pull away late.
The Fighting Illini are rested, playing at home, and should have the better early-game script. But the Ducks have the deeper roster and stronger defense. If Illinois hangs around for a quarter, Oregon should have enough talent to take control as the game progresses.
Give me a fast start from Illinois, followed by an Oregon takeover in a game that never opens up offensively.
