The undefeated Houston Rockets visit the Dallas Mavericks in NBA Cup action tonight, and my Rockets vs. Mavericks prediction is that the visitors will cover the 5.5-point spread.

Tip-off is at 8 p.m. ET at American Airlines Center. Keep reading for my NBA picks for Friday, Oct. 30.

 TOP PICK
Rockets vs Mavericks prediction: Rockets -5.5

Play this up to 57%.

The Houston Rockets aren't just off to a perfect 5-0 start this season - they're also 5-0-0 ATS with an average margin of victory of 14.2 points. That stretch includes a dominant 128-110 win over the Dallas Mavericks in their season opener.

38-year-old Kevin Durant is proving he's still a difference-maker, averaging 22.4 ppg and drawing seven fouls per game, tied for fifth-most among all players.

Durant and the Rockets will find success on the interior, where they'll either score in the paint or draw contact from the Mavs' defense. Dallas is allowing 53.2 ppg in the paint (26th), and that's not a good stylistic matchup for a Houston team that loves to attack the rim.

Covers COVERS INTEL: The Rockets rank sixth in free throws made per game (23.2) and third in free throw percentage (84.7%).

Rockets vs Mavericks combo

The Rockets are averaging 123 ppg, the second-best mark in the NBA, and have cashed the Over in four of five games this season.

The Mavericks' offense isn't too shabby either at 114.6 ppg (16th), while both teams have been incredibly efficient, ranking in the top three in field goal percentage.

Durant has recorded 20+ points in four of five outings, including a season-high 30 vs. Dallas in the season opener.

Rockets vs Mavericks combo

  • Rockets -5.5
  • Over 227.5
  • Kevin Durant Over 22.5 points

Rockets vs Mavericks player props

Rockets player prop: Amen Thompson Over 18.5 points

Playable up to 53%.

Amen Thompson is a formidable scorer in the paint, averaging 12.4 ppg in the interior this season - tied for 11th among all players with Karl-Anthony Towns.

Thompson, who's scored 20+ points in two of his last four games, will give fits to a Mavs defense that struggles to defend down low.

Mavericks player prop: Cooper Flagg Over 22.5 points

Playable up to 51%.

If there's one player who can keep this competitive for Dallas, it's Cooper Flagg. The sophomore is scoring over 25 ppg and has topped that number in three of four contests so far this season.

The Mavs offense runs through Flagg, who is averaging 17.3 field goal attempts per game - nearly four more than anyone else on Dallas.

Flagg has attempted 23 field goals in each of his last two outings, so I expect him to take matters into his own hands again tonight.
