Kings vs Grizzlies Odds, Picks, and Predictions Tonight: Jackson Jr. Piles Up the Points

The Grizzlies are riddled with injuries, and Jaren Jackson Jr. has been thrust into the role of being their No. 1 scorer. With JJJ's volume so high, our NBA picks expect the big man to put up plenty of points against Sacramento.

Whether the Sacramento Kings make a move before the trade deadline or not, they’re looking like a tough playoff out. The Kings are sitting as big favorites in the latest NBA odds when they take on Memphis Grizzlies tonight.

SacTown has won three in a row to stay above the Play-In line, powering past the Dallas Mavericks on Saturday behind an electric 34-point effort from De’Aaron Fox.

Meanwhile, a nightmare season continues to unfold in Memphis. Though the Grizz had won three straight before Sunday’s 116-110 loss to the Indiana Pacers, the mounting injuries have turned this year into a write-off.

Check out my free NBA picks for the Kings vs Grizzlies on January 29.

Kings vs Grizzlies predictions

With Ja Morant, Desmond Bane and Marcus Smart headlining the lengthy Grizzlies injury list, Jaren Jackson Jr. has a bright green light to be the team’s No. 1 scoring option.

The results have been mixed, with Jackson Jr. seeing an uptick in points amid erratic efficiency. Still, there’s no debating the volume, and I’m picking JJJ to be front and center for the Memphis Grizzlies again.

He’s scored 25 points or more in five of his last six outings, and this is a good matchup against the high-tempo Sacramento Kings. Sacramento gives up 50 points a game in the paint, and JJJ should get good looks inside as long as he doesn’t fall in love with perimeter shots.

Foul trouble is always the other caveat with Jackson Jr.’s style of play, but he’s only reached five fouls twice in his past eight games.

If the hosts are going to hang with the Kings, they’ll need the reigning Defensive Player of the Year to flash all of his offensive skills. It may not always be pretty, with Memphis so short on playmaking, but he’s shown he’s capable of splashy numbers.

With JJJ firing up at least 20 shots seven times already this month, I’m taking these plus odds for another impressive scoring night.

My best bet: Jaren Jackson Jr. Over 27.5 points (+105 at bet365)

Kings vs Grizzlies same-game parlay

Jaren Jackson Jr. Over 27.5 points

De'Aaron Fox Over 25.5 points

Grizzlies +12.5

Without Marcus Smart’s physicality on the perimeter, the Grizzlies could be on the end of a Fox masterclass as he looks to press his All-Star case.

Though his scoring has dipped this month, the Kings' point guard is averaging almost 28 points a game this season, and his numbers are trending back up again. He’s had at least 29 points in four of his last six outings.

I’m also taking the Grizzlies on an adjusted spread. They’re still playing hard for Taylor Jenkins and the defensive intensity is there. Memphis is only allowing 112.8 points per game — 12th best in the league.

It would be easy for Sacramento to look at the Grizz's absentees and expect an easy night. I’m counting on Memphis to seize on any let-ups and make enough shots to cover this large spread.

Kings vs Grizzlies spread and Over/Under analysis

The Grizzlies have had a miserable year at FedExForum — winning just five of their 20 games on their home floor — and they’re big underdogs here against a dangerous Sacramento team.

The Kings are 12-10 on the road and have already won in Memphis this season, stifling Morant & Co. on the way to a 123-97 victory in late December.

But beware a Grizzlies response here. They’ve covered the spread in their last four games, building on a stingy defense, and things are starting to stabilize after the shock of the latest wave of injuries. They’re not about to enter the Play-In race, but don’t sleep on their ability to turn games into 1990s-style slugfests.

The Over is always in play with Sacramento’s high-powered offense — and the visitors have scored at least 120 points in each of their past four games.

Memphis will look to grind this into a low-scoring battle, as it's scored 110 points or fewer in its last six contests. The team total Under has also cashed in 29 of Memphis' past 41 home games.

The Under is 27-19-0 overall for the Grizz this season, and it’s also been a winning ticket in seven of the past 10 meetings between these teams.
