The New York Mets will look to build upon their first win in two weeks as they host the Minnesota Twins for the rubber game of their series on Thursday.

New York is running out an untested pitcher tonight, and that has me backing Minnesota to win in my Twins vs. Mets predictions.

Keep reading for more MLB picks for Thursday, April 23.

Who will win Twins vs Mets today: Twins moneyline (-107)

The New York Mets squeaked out a win last night, but they face a significantly more challenging task on Thursday.

The Mets will likely be without Francisco Lindor for at least a day or two after he left Wednesday’s game with calf tightness. They’ll also be starting Christian Scott, whose MLB career consists of nine starts in 2024.

Joe Ryan gets the nod for the Minnesota Twins, and he's had a strong start following his All-Star campaign in 2025.

Ryan has a sterling 0.878 WHIP in his first five starts, and he gives Minnesota a clear edge in tonight’s game.

Covers COVERS INTEL: Ryan has held opponents to a .127 AVG over his last three starts, striking out 18 batters in 18 innings.

Twins vs Mets Over/Under pick: Under 7.5 (-105)

While the Mets may have broken their 12-game losing streak, it wasn’t due to a sudden offensive explosion. The three runs New York put up last night did little to change the fact that it ranks last in runs per game (3.25) and OPS (.622).

I’ve been banking on the Twins to help cover the Over, but their bats have been quiet in Queens. And while I have concerns about Scott, he’s allowed three runs or less in seven of his nine career starts.

With neither team likely to break out tonight, the Under is my play.

Since joining Covers in 2022, Ed has offered his sports betting analysis primarily on MLB, NFL, college football, and college basketball games, but is willing to take on any sport.

His betting strategy focuses more on finding line value based on deviations from the market rather than traditional handicapping, primarily shopping between DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics in his home state of Connecticut, though he’s not afraid to do deep game analysis to find profitable bets at any book.

Outside of gambling, Ed is an avid curler who competes in mixed doubles on the World Curling Tour and runs a popular curling YouTube channel, Chess on Ice. That experience has come in handy during the Olympics, when he has proven to be a successful curling bettor as well.

Ed's advice to new bettors is to always open multiple sportsbook accounts and check the odds at each before placing any bet. Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
