Down 2-0 in the World Series, Tampa Bay turns to a resurgent Freddy Peralta. Our expert is backing the Rays to strike back in Game 3.

Milwaukee is up 2-0 in the World Series, but our Brewers vs. Rays prediction for tonight's Game 3 supports Tampa Bay to climb back into contention.

The Rays are slight 52% favorites at home, while the Over 6.5 carries a 57% probability compared to 43% for the Under.

See why our MLB picks are buying into Freddy Peralta's late-season resurgence, and don't miss first pitch at 8 p.m. ET on FOX.

Brewers vs Rays prediction tonight: Rays moneyline

For help understanding probabilities, see our odds calculator.

I'm playing the Tampa Bay Rays to 54%.

Freddy Peralta's turnaround is more persuasive than his season-long ERA alone. Since joining the Rays, he's regained extension, raised his arm slot, and leaned more on his changeup to counter the Milwaukee Brewers' left-handed bats.

Tampa Bay also has a useful lineup matchup against Robert Gasser: right-handed hitters slugged .442 against him this season, giving Yandy Díaz and Junior Caminero a clearer path to damage than Gasser's recent results suggest.

It's a small edge. Tampa Bay struggled against lefties over the full season, Gasser finished strongly, and Milwaukee's bullpen can keep the Brewers within striking distance. Still, I prefer Peralta's adjusted form and the Rays at home.

Covers COVERS INTEL: Tampa Bay's 20.7% whiff rate is the lowest in MLB this season. According to Statcast, Gasser generated misses on just 22.5% of swings. The Rays' contact strength directly challenges a starter who doesn't routinely miss bats.

Who will win Brewers vs Rays?

Rays: Peralta gives them the better path through five innings, and Kevin Cash can manage a rested bullpen aggressively as Tampa Bay looks to avoid a 3-0 series hole.

Brewers vs Rays combo

Gasser's sweeper has been difficult to solve, but Tampa Bay has other pitches to attack.

His sinker and cutter account for more than 40% of his mix, with opposing xwOBAs of .377 and .395, respectively. That gives the Rays a route to four runs without requiring a big inning against Milwaukee's late relievers. Peralta has had extra rest, and Sunday's off day leaves Tampa Bay able to use its preferred bullpen matchups behind him.

Brewers vs Rays home run prediction: Jake Bauers

Peralta has recovered his form, but his approach remains aggressively fastball-heavy. He threw his four-seamer 53% of the time this season and used it for 71 of 99 pitches in his ALCS Game 2 start.

Bauers is Milwaukee's best direct answer. He produced a .536 xSLG and 55.9% hard-hit rate against four-seamers this season, with 18 of his 26 home runs coming against right-handed pitching.

His overall 14% barrel rate and 92.1-mph average exit velocity support that power production. If Bauers bats second, he should get multiple looks at Peralta before Tampa Bay can introduce a left-handed reliever.

Todd Cordell's Brewers vs. Rays home run picks are also backing Bauers tonight.

Brewers vs Rays player prop: Yandy Diaz Over 1.5 total bases

I like Yandy Diaz Over 1.5 total bases; it's my favorite of all the Brewers vs. Rays props available for this game. His plate skills match up well with Gasser, even if Tampa Bay's overall numbers against lefties suggest otherwise.

Gasser throws his sweeper and sinker a combined 47.8% of the time. Díaz hit .390 with an .805 slugging percentage against sweepers this season and .308 against sinkers, while striking out in only 14.3% of his plate appearances overall.

That combination creates multiple paths to two total bases. His spot in the lineup also helps against a starter who generally works around five innings. Díaz should get multiple looks at Gasser, with a potential third matchup if Milwaukee lets its starter work deeper into the game.
